During this time of year I conduct many golf schools. I travel a lot and this week is no different! But, before I ventured off to the next stop, I decided to enlist the help of my head instructor, Greg MacDonell for today's video. Greg and I were at Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, SC this past weekend and talked about how posture and balance are two of the most important parts of the Peak Performance Golf Swing. Both are very important yet so easily overlooked.
Even I've had my problems with posture, but that's because it can be hard to notice on your own. Have a friend watch or record a video. Even using a mirror could give you some good feedback.
The key is getting into an athletically ready posiiton. If you stand up too straight, your arms go back and the weight of your body is back on your heels. Instead, your weight should be somewhere over the balls of your feet, not in the toes or the heels. Once you've got correct posture that allows you to swing your arms vertically in front of you while maintaining your balance to the finish, then you're on the right track!
Lack of posture and balance are problems we see a lot at our golf schools, so I expect to see more of it this week. But, it's also one of the easier things to fix. So, next time you're out on the practice range try to really focus on your posture and maintaining proper balance throughout the swing. Greg and I both took a swing to see who could get closer to the pin, and both of us knocked it close because we had great posture and solid balance.
