My Lesson with Keenan Huskey: Part 5

Sat, 08/22/2015 - 14:00 -- Don Trahan

Today, I'll finish up my lesson with Keenan by talking about the importance of taking notes and keeping stats. This is an area of the game that I think most amateurs don't even think about. They may know how many greens and fairways they hit, but I'm talking about real useful, detailed stats.

Check out today's video to see what kinds of stats I keep and to get a wrap up of the things Keenan and I worked on throughout our lesson.

Keep it vertical!

Thanks, Surge! I know I need to keep even better stats than I do, and I need to start recording them better for myself. I do keep track of fairways and greens hit, number of chips and putts, and where my misses went, but I need to start keeping clearer records about where my ball lands when it's on the green and how long each putt is that I strike. It would also be good to know not only whether I hit or missed the fairway, but where my ball ended up relative to where I was aiming it. So much information we leave out on the course.

Hi Robert, I have a thing called Game Golf, it clips onto your belt, you put sensors in the end of the grips on each club. When you take a shot you touch the sensor against the Game Golf on your belt.
After the round you transfer the info stored on it to a computer, it gives all the stats , fairways hit, distance with each club, etc.
I find it very usefull as I am lazy when it comes to manually writing stats. It has also shown me that I don't hit the ball as far as I thought.

Congratulations Surge, on a great coaching job with young Keenan. A very impressive win. As far as stats go, I'm letting the team down a bit. Don't keep any stats at the moment. End of winter here, & the ground is very wet. Only able
to play 9 holes once or twice a week, weather permitting. The way golf is for me is never the same twice. One day long game is good, but the short game or putting is poor. The next time out its the other way round. I promise to start keeping some stats from now on, & get some practice in to, as that hasn't happened for a while either

Surge, well done on keenan and here's hoping this kid goes a long way as it would be a great testimonial to your skills and passion of the game.

I get a lot of negative comments from rotational coaches about your methods and would love to see Keenan go all the way and do well on PGA circuit.
This would definitively show the world that the "status quo" on coaching is not
the "be all and end all" and there are other more effective systems that combine
physics, physiology and phun, lol.
