All About Bounce

Thu, 12/09/2010 - 05:00 -- Don Trahan

I recently got some questions on the blog about “bounce” and wedges and what it all means. So the Surge said, “have at it.”

All irons have “bounce,” but it almost always is in reference to wedges. Basically it's the degree of the angle from the front edge of a club's sole to the point that actually rests on the ground at address. I guess the easiest way to think about it is that the more “bounce” the club has, the less likely it is to dig into turf or sand.

For example, if you have nice, fluffy sand in your bunkers, the more bounce you're going to need to keep yourself from burying the club in the sand. If you've got sand bunkers like we have around here, rock hard, the less bounce you need.

I hope this video clears up the question of “bounce.”
