The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory No, I'€™m not talking about astrophysics. I'€™m talking about when your clubhead meets the ball. That is: at impact. I know I talked about this recently, but a student of mine came to the lesson tee with the '€œmono speed swing,'€ where there is no acceleration through impact. It was just one smooth, sleepy swing. He told me he was attempting to keep his tempo nice and smooth throughout his swing That won'€™t cut it. You must ACCELERATE through the ball at impact. That'€™s my Big Bang Theory. In the downswing your tempo must include a dramatic increase in speed. You can'€™t sleep walk through the swing. I don'€™t mind a relatively slow, smooth backswing. That keeps us in sequence., but once you ring the bell at the top, you must speed up. At and through impact, the clubhead must be going faster '€“ accelerating. Practice the '€œBig Bang Theory'€ and you'€™ll see your distance increase dramatically. Just like that: bang! The Surge!
