Braced Back Knee Bad News

Tue, 11/30/2010 - 10:00 -- Don Trahan

This is sort of a second installment from yesterday. I just had to add it because it is so fundamental to the Peak Performance Golf Swing.

Point one, our stance is narrower than what most golfers are taught.

Point two, We have “wide knees.” It's kind of a trademark of the PPGS.

But what I didn't get into yesterday is that by bracing your back knee forward does not allow you to turn back, even though you want to. This not only causes you to go forward, it builds a great deal of tension on your knee, hip and back, which is never a good idea.

Now when we were younger and more supple and flexible we could actually turn against that braced back knee and make a turn. But as we age we lose that flexibility. Not only are you going to hurt, you're going to start hitting some terrible golf shots.

You're going to start getting ahead of the ball or pulling out of the shot. Turning your back knee inward, turning your back foot in is not the way to load the back leg. If you want to hit the ball consistently without stress or strain, wide knees, toes out is the ultimate key in the set up to make a good turn and start your swing, heavy right, up to a perfect T-Finish.
