DJ is down in Orlando this week at Bay Hill and took some time to give us an update yesterday. He's digging deep to find his game and when I talked to him he was confident he was close. It's week 2 of the belly putter.
What I admire so much about DJ as my son and as my student, is his determination, his faith in his swing, and the guts it takes to go out there again with confidence. I'm also proud of him sharing his thoughts and feelings with you. It's an amazing experience for all of us.
Both DJ and I want to thank you for your continued support and the kind messages you've left on the site. Yes, they do get passed along.
As DJ says, it's a tough game and they're playing on some of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour. But he loves it and that's what's important.

Hey, Kevin,
Hey, Kevin,
I had a similar issue with my right leg wanting to straighten. I just spent some time every morning in front of a full-length mirror practicing the heavy-right setup and letting the right knee take the weight rather than push it away (which is what straightening actually does). All of the other points Ken mentioned in the actual swing come down, I think, to that one problem. If the right leg is straight, it can't push the weight laterally forward. It has to bend first, which pulls the weight back and everything goes downhill from there. Spend some time in the mornings just feeling the stance and the back swing settling on that right knee.

Just thought I would say that
Just thought I would say that in case you wanted to branch off into the subject of athletic performace and brain motor maps, motor imagery, and visual imagery, as they pertain to elite athletes, I have some background in that area also and would welcome some discussion. Not an expert or a researcher, but an avid reader.
The bullies at High School
The bullies at High School quickly stayed away from me.I took my whacks but they couldn't. I picked them off one at a time. I am not selling myself short as a Medic, hahahaha I am short according to Charlie Y 5'5" same as Charlie's dad.
Jokes sometimes do fall flat.
I always tell this one:
A Scotsman into the big city, for the first time, spots a lady of the night. He asks her "how much", she replies 5pounds at my place. When she gets there, she tells him to put the money on the bedside table and off we go. When he finished she was wide eyed and stunned. "Look she said, that was brilliant, if you can do it again, I will only charge you half price". "Och aye" and away they go again. When he has finished again, she says,"That was wonderful, if you can do it again, you can have it for nothing". "Aye alricht then, but first I will have tae hae a couple hours sleep, and while I am asleep, I want ye to hold ma' balls up af the sheet". She is a bit taken aback, but thought, why not? To have what I have just had, why not!
After two hours sleep, she calls and awakens him. " Can you manage it again she asks?" :"Och aye nae bother". Look before we start, can I ask you a question". "Of course", he replies.
"Look" she said, " I can understand the two hours sleep part, but the keeping your balls off the sheet, was it to keep them cool?"
"Och nae",he said," It wis tae keep yer thieving hands out o' ma pockets!!"
Now when they laugh,it is open season on all of them ; - )
Keep it vertical in Oklahoma.
PS. A cadet from the age of 12, I had 4 marksmanship badges, only with a .22 bolt action Mossberg on a 25yard indoor range. Graduated to a SMLE .303 which was nearly as heavy as me. On the outdoor range in the lying position,it used to drive me backwards hahahaha.

The way to get the 10 foot putts to drop is to do what Scott McCarron did - follow his example. Try out Aimpoint and have his caddy use it to read greens for him.
From http://www.aimpointgolf.com/do...
ScottâÂÂs latest new way is an eager adoption of Mark SweeneyâÂÂs green reading method. If you watch golf on TV the highlighted putting lines seen on the screen are his scientific invention. Scott was fascinated by the technology, thus did the training. Together with his caddie, Scott has improved his all- round putting stats from a December, 2008 of 159 to a current 21. He attributes much of the improvement to his green reading method. That is a huge leap in performance.
There is two-part message here. To steadily improve you must keep up with the improvements in technology, technique and performance psychology. And with careful investigation, select new ways â sometimes itâÂÂs new ways to do old things â to include in your performance package. The second benefit of the new green reading method is; âÂÂwhen I stand over a putt, now, I completely trust my read, which leads to a very trusting stroke.âÂÂ
If DJ does do the Aimpoint system then he should also take the Edel test (but not get their putter -- I like his new approach - longer shafted putter). When I took the test the they asked me to line up my current putter (fitted via Taylormade 3D system) with the hole 8 feet away. My eyes told me i was lined up on the hole but they showed me with laser that I was actually 2 inches to the right. -- Everyone has this problem from one degree to another.
Doing Aimpoint gets a ton of junk out of your brain about putting and makes putting a simple problem in applied physics. Sorry but the stuff Surge is putting out on putting is confusing and some of it is bad advice. Aimpoint dispenses with a lot of nonsense and "common wisdom" being sold right here. Of course I have a way to make Aimpoint even better but that is another story.
The second way to drop more putts is to hit the ball closer to the hole. The way for DJ to do that is to hit the ball 25-30 longer while hitting the fairway 50% more often. IOW -- follow the this forum and watch what happens to Roy if he chooses to get a new driver shaft made from a new material Doc has never seen. Janet has the same offer but DJ is at the opposite end of the spectrum in length as Janet so when we get her more distance it won't mean as much ... serve be an example for short hitters.
Steve, Robert, and Ken,
Steve, Robert, and Ken,
I took your comments and went back and looked at my video in slo-mo. What I think I saw was not at all what I expected. When I start the turn, in attempting to keep the knees in their proper wide position, I am actually slightly turning my hips and moving them to the left. That is what is causing the right leg to straighten and reject the weight. It also makes the left knee kick in. You guys all got me looking at my right leg and I couldn't understand it until I noticed the hip movement. I took my short club a few moments ago and tried it here in the house and I had great difficulty keeping the hip rotation out of the back-swing. Thank you all. Now, I know what I need to work on. You guys are great! I should have remembered that part from the Surge's videos.

Thanks for returning the favor, I was almost on the floor laughing. I told my girls they were free to date anyone they wanted as soon as they turned 31. Obviously all the time you spent on the short game is paying off. I may have to loan Dan some of my treachery.

My buddy with two hip replacements tried everything Taylormade had available and he was 30-40 yards longer with the club I had built for him than anything they had available. Me too. I had the club built for my buddy and in exchange he gave me an extended session of fitness - trade out. I have never met the guy who created the shaft and don't know how to fit a driver. I know the fitter who is close to the guy who created the shaft. Janet will meet this fitter when we get together and I have also offered to have her train with my buddy who has two hip replacements (one session).
my buddy who has two hip replacements trained a Korean LPGA player (top 5 on the tour) and gave her 40 yards. So extra length via new material and fitness is available to Janet. If she is serious about wanting to hit the ball longer she will see the results (some of her comments here say she is not serious).
Hi Kevin,Looks familiar. I
Hi Kevin,
Looks familiar. I think if you would work on getting the club head to the toe line sooner in the swing it would be easier and would make the swing look more athletic. Also the body wants to make the club come back down on the same plane that it went up on and if you take the club to the top in a straight line the tendency is to come over the top a little in the forward swing. This causes the club path through the hitting zone to be out to in.
You want the shaft to be parallel to the target line and on the toe line, from there just lift up and just before your hands get to the top start the bump and the transfer of weight to the left side. To get this right it requires being in a fairly athletic position which is hard to accomplish unless the knees are flexed.
As Ken said keep those knees flexed and I think you will be a little smoother, and will start the swing with the bump instead of starting the forward swing with the upper body.
The swing thought during the takeaway that worked absolute wonders for me is to think of pointing the butt end of the shaft at the target (almost like aiming a rifle) when it is just below waist high in the back swing, and this "rifle" (shaft) needs to be on the toe line. Many times I miss my mark of having my "rifle" on the toe line, and get just inside of it, but the results are very good whether I miss this mark or not. The important thing is to get the shaft parallel to the target line.
Once I get to that point the rest of the swing is almost impossible to mess up. I just lift and start the swing with my lower body, let the club fall just the way it went up and this puts me in a position to come into the hitting zone from the inside and the club squares up before the ball and stays square through the hitting zone.
My iron play since adopting this approach has been amazing, knock on wood, (and believe me my iron play has never even been mentioned in the same sentence as amazing before).

Doc created a bunch of new conditions - like he refused to bring out his own driver that he built himself. That shows he is not going to come. CervezaFria lives in San Diego and he has an offer of a free fitting and shaft too. When enough people get results I am betting Surge will get interested too ... the point is that DJ can use a better shaft than what he uses now. Longer and straighter + better putting = lots of PGA wins every year and being #1 in golf.
Doc can fly supersaver on American Airlines - it won't kill him and I will pay for it. The offer remains open. Free rental car too as well as I will pay for him sending his driver out here by FedEx. Wouldn't we all want to see what Doc creates for himself vs what we create on the fly - Doc is trying to cut the time for the fitting so as to make it harder for my fitter.

I am excited for you. I am having to live through you guys who are having Doc work his magic for you. Even if he don't have any pixie dust, you are going to love it. I know you will keep us posted as the deal progresses. The man just has talent. I hope to be in a position to have the money to have him build me some clubs one day soon. Kelly Jo is wanting to buy a home before we spend any money on other things right now. I am working on her to get those priorities straight. Women, you can't understand them, and you are not allowed to cut them up into little pieces anymore. There I go again, being all not PC.
You just bring out the best in me
Dick
