DJ Trahan Is #1 On Tour For Greens In Regulation?

Fri, 03/20/2009 - 10:00 -- Don Trahan

Well, In my last Blog DJ had just had a really rough day out on the greens at Doral. The good news is his scoring got much better as the week progressed. After Thursdays round of 77 he finished strong with rounds of 71,66 and 71. Some putts did start to fall over the weekend but, It was DJ's ball striking that pulled him through the week.. In the third round on Saturday DJ drew an early tee time.

This allowed him to get 6 hole in with little wind. He took advantage of the docile conditions and played the holes in 3 under par. Saturday's round included him hitting 17 greens in regulation. The one he did miss was only a few feet off the green. Despite the South Florida winds blowing strong all week DJ's ball striking remained very good. In fact, this may seem like a shameless plug for the Peak Performance Golf Swing site but, In my opinion DJ is one of the top 5 ball strikers in the World.

Actually that is just not my theory. He is currently leading The PGA Tour in the category of Greens in Regulation.

This statistic means that he is putting for birdie more than anyone on Tour. He has averaged hitting 74.40%. When you consider that The Tour has played in some really windy places already this year that is incredible.

The good news is that it appears the great ball striking is continuing this week in Tampa at the Transitions Championship.

After the first round of the tournament DJ is in 6th place after firing a 68. The great ball striking has continued as he led the field yesterday in Driving Accuracy hitting 92% of the fairways off the tee.

I look forward to seeing how he finishes the week on the difficult Innisbrook Golf course. As mentioned above his ball striking is amazing if a few putts drop, he maybe holding the trophy on Sunday.
