A great deal has been written and said about young Rory McIlroy's performance in the U.S. Open and deservedly so. What an extraordinary weekend. I think we all felt it. The records set, the extraordinary test of a golfer. A test he more than passed. But maybe what impressed me the most was what he said Saturday evening at the press conference.
Here's a guy who had The Masters in hand on a Saturday back in April and the tournament tumbled out of his hands on Sunday. And there was this guy on another Saturday with an extraordinary lead at the U.S. Open. So a reporter had to ask him what he would be doing on Sunday in light of what happened in Augusta.
What this young man said in response impressed me so much and that's what this video is all about. McIlory said you have to 'lose yourself in that shot, in that moment in time, and think of nothing else.'
Wow. What an observation, what a perfect response to what we all must do with every shot, to get into each shot on its own, to pursue that extraordinary focus we all need to get the ball into the hole.
We saw what could happen when you get into every shot like that. We witnessed a great moment in golf.
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!
