Give Your Old Clubs New Life

Sat, 11/27/2010 - 22:00 -- Don Trahan

Is it worth it to get your 20-year-old clubs refitted, and what'€™s the cost? That question came in on the blog the other day.

The answer is '€“ if the heads are in pretty good shape '€“ an unqualified '€œyes.'€ It'€™s less expensive than going out and buying the '€œlatest and greatest'€ high end set. Even more importantly, when you go to a PPGS Certified Fitter, you'€™ll be getting a '€œnew'€ set that is made just for your swing.

I'€™ve done it myself. My brother Ken is still playing with a set he bought in 1975. He just keeps taking them in when needed. A wedge I keep in my bag when I play in Florida'€™s fluffy sand was made in 1949.

If the groves are worn, the fitter can make them come back to life. Even if there'€™s a little chip on the head, you can get them re-chromed.

Refitting is a good idea. Think of it as going a little '€œgreen.'€
