Whenever I setup to the ball, I use the accordion effect. Some of you may already be familiar with this concept, but I believe it's so important to having a consistent setup that I wanted to explain it in more detail today.
The reason for today's explanation stems from a question asking how to always find yourself in the right setup position, regardless of what club is in hand. By using the accordion effect, it doesn't matter if you've got a downhill, sidehill, or perfect lie. It allows you to settle into the shot the same way each time. Naturally the amount that you bend at the knees depends on your lie as well as which club you have. This is because longer irons will have a different shaft angle because of the increased length of the club. Instead of reaching towards the ball with longer irons, always keep your hands positioned straight under your chin area, and then settle into the shot using the proper amount of the accordion effect.
Check out the video, give it a try, and you'll become a much more consistent golfer.
