Robert is one of my local students. He's a member of the Inner Circle, has all the videos, and knows the manual by heart. He also has a nice swing.
We were out the other day in 40 degree weather and I watched as he went through his bag. Each shot he took was great. His only comment was that they lacked distance.
I suggested that it might have something to do with all the clothes he had on and the fact you don't hit it as far in cold weather. He accepted that, but then I noticed something.
His practice swings were really good and he put a lot of effort into them. But when he got up to the ball his swing was 'sleepy,' like he was holding back.
What we discovered was that he wasn't accelerating through the ball like he was on his practice swings. That's where distance comes from, the speed of the rock (clubhead) on the end of the string (shaft and arms).
We solved the problem.
