So, yesterday was my first Blog of the 2009 PGA Tour season. For me that means getting to go with DJ to a half dozen tour events including several Majors a year. I have watched DJ play over 50 competitive rounds of golf and yesterday was far and away his worst putting round I have ever seen him have.
The media often talks about putting being his Achilles Heel, and to some degree I agree with them. I would actually say that when his putting is good its actually great….. and when it's bad…. well, It ain't good.
Yesterday was a bad day for sure…. It started on 10 (his first hole of the day) he stripped his driver 318 yards down the gut… Hit a 6 iron just short of the putting green (par 5) chipped it less than 5 feet and missed the putt… then on 11 he missed one under 4 feet for par and from that point on I had a feeling it was going to be a grind…
At dinner last night DJ and Charlie Hoffman (Charlie shot 68) talked a bit about putting and both of the guys concluded… Every once in a while you just have one of those days… Well, I hope DJ had his yesterday…
As I thought the scoring at Doral was low yesterday… These guys have out grown this Southern Florida gem. From a spectators standpoint, I think it's great… because we get a chance to watch some great scoring.
Today is another beautiful day and unless the wind really picks up, I would expect to see more low scoring… Let's hope DJ is one of those low scores… I think he will be.
Until tomorrow, I'm off to the course.
Have a great Friday!
