Fred said he was having a problem with 'banana balls' off the tee. His playing partner says Fred is pushing his club away from the aiming line.
For those of you who are new to the game, a 'banana ball' looks just like it sounds. The ball might start off straight on the aiming line, but then it decidedly makes a right turn '¦ slices.
Most likely Fred's problem is in the takeaway. If he's pushing his club away his front leg could be giving way and his forward shoulder drops down. As he's pushing his club, his back palm is probably starting to face the ground. We need the palms to always be perpendicular to the ground throughout the swing!
If that's happening, Fred may pull the club back to impact, but the face is open. The ball could start out straight then make the big right loop.
In this video, I've got a couple drills for Fred to try. While both will straighten out Fred's problem, I think my favorite is called, 'toe on the wall.'
Take a look, these drills will help everybody to make the correct turn in the takeaway.
