The U.S. Open is hard enough when you are putting with your putter.

Well, I'm back home from a great trip to New York. I have to say The US Open is in my opinion, the ultimate test of golf.

While the Masters was gorgeous this Spring and produces great champions every year. To me, the US Open is a nerve-shattering and brutal test of the game.

With that being said, I want to explain to all of you what happened to DJ during the second round. Many of you may have seen the clips of DJ putting with his Driver. Yep, you read that correct. He putted the last 8 holes of his second round with “the big stick”.

Here is what happened: When DJ was walking off the 10th hole he “tossed” his putter over to his bag that was laying on the ground.

The reason I use the word “tossed” is because it is something he and many tour players do all the time. This time when he tossed it, it bounces and the shaft of the putter hit the end of his bag causing an “ever so little bend in the shaft”. In the rules of golf, a player may not alter their equipment at all during a round. So, that meant that he had to take the club out of play until the end of the round, at which time he could replace it.

He did not putt too bad with his driver, recording a birdie and only 1 three putt. In the end a very valuable lesson was learned by him and all that saw it happen.

DJ was disappointed by missing the cut but refused to blame it entirely on the “putter incident”… As we all know this great game has a heck of a sense of humor and it was never so evident as it was in New York this week for DJ.

So, DJ is off to the Travelers Championship in Connecticut this week, and I feel quite certain that he will not be tossing his putter at his bag…
