Wandering Eyes on The Putting Green

Wed, 07/08/2015 - 14:00 -- Don Trahan

One of the requirements of any golf shot is to keep your head still. But, this is especially true when it comes to putting. I used to battle what I call "wandering eyes" when putting, until the techniques in today's video gave me consistency in my game and confidence in my stroke.

During a particular putting drought many years ago, I realized that I was taking the putter head back and outside on my backswing. That realization led to a bigger problem though, as I started to focus more on where the putter head was going instead of keeping my eyes still on the ball.

Check out the video above to hear my take on a popular putting technique.

Keep it vertical!

Thanks, Surge! This is a great reminder for me. I all too often notice myself looking at my putter head when I'm putting, at which point the putter head wobbles (because my body is moving to follow it), and the stroke doesn't go where I intended. My other option to deal with this, particularly on short putts, has always been to close my eyes until after I feel the ball. I'd much rather get myself better at doing exactly what you're saying. Focus on where I want the ball to go, not on following the putter head.
