Where's The Weight?

Sun, 07/17/2011 - 17:00 -- Don Trahan

A great deal has been written and taught about weight distribution when addressing the ball. It'€™s easy to get confused. You'€™re told to distribute your weight evenly on your right and left leg. Some even advocate putting more weight on your front leg. Well, as many of you already know in the Surge Swing, for right-handers, we want to pre-load the right.

What does pre-loaded right mean and how much? That question came in on the blog, short and sweet. The answer is pretty simple, too. We want to start out with 60 to 70% of our weight on the right side, mostly closer to 60%.

That doesn'€™t mean you shift your upper body to the right by buckling your right knee inward to get behind the ball. I want you to shift all your weight to the right. If you'€™ve been having problems with '€œpre-loaded right,'€ this video will really help you. The concept is simple, easy to do, and will mean much better ball striking for everyone.

Keep it vertical,

The Surge!

Whether it’s Phil M, Dj or anyone for that matter why do they have so many 5 footers for par we need to look at all the stats as a whole. If you’re constantly putting for birdie from 15' + then we need to look how good our approach shots are to the green to make more birdies and easy pars we have to be closer to the pin coming in.
I’m not picking on DJ are anyone but all puts are important if you want to win or shoot lower scores you have to make putts. I do not think he has the yips look at his stats as a whole or Phil M’s there are a lot of things that contribute to not wining / scoring one would be proximity to the hole another fairways hit, par 3 scoring why can’t we make birdies on par 3’s proximity to the hole, greens hit in regulation it goes on and on.

I lost my match yesterday why because I missed 3 par puts for net birdie why proximity to the hole.

We can agree to disagree but all puts are important if we want to shoot low score’s we can’t be scrambling for pars all the time it will eventually catch up to us we have to look at stats as a whole
By the way in no way do I agree with Ed’s post.

DJ has two flaws in his putting that were very obvious to me. The first is his tendency to recoil on the shorter putts and the second is his posture. He does not align his forearms with the shaft of the putter and this causes an angle between his forearms and putter shaft that is a no no. If he corrects these two flaws he will have a much better chance of winning.

OneSigma:  I politely disagree with you.  Putting is a VERY individual process, and I can honestly say I have never, ever saw two golfers that putt exactly the same way.  Sure, there are basics that can be learned, drills to be followed, and exercises to help, but in the end, it is simply the individual that determines what "process" works best for him or her.  I personally use a long "side-saddle" putter, and neither of the two things you mention apply to my putting style.   I've looked at lot at DJ's putting style, and it is HIS style, and he is adjusting it to work for him.   And, I might add, putting is always a work in progress, as is every single facet of this great game (and four letter word) we call golf....lol.  Have a great day and putt 'em straight!  R2

Jack, We do not have the lawn bowling, as far as I know. However, if the new fitted clubs I recently purchased had not improved my performance, I was considering looking at a tailor made Shuffle board stick, or precision Boccie ball set. There is no discussion over walking or riding with those sports.

We do not have any fitters that we recommend in your area.  You may want to consider our long distance fitting program that we just introduced.

Your to funny 73 a decent score HA HA HA. I guess the lower we score the lower we want to go the next time that's they way it should if not why do we play.

Our East team finally won the East West Cup this year they have a really nice huge trophy that the winning Captain gets to keep for the year. The west team has won the last 3 years.
I lost my Individual single match 3 up. I missed some key puts at the wrong time but played really well it was confidence building round playing someone that good and hanging with them.

I got my new driver today and love it I did not hit until we started playing today. I hit it off 24 tees out of 36 holes today and hit 17 fairways the 7 that I missed 2 of them I ran through dog legs 1 into a fairway bunker and 1 just into the rough about 2 feet out of the fairway. 2 more of them I actually hit fairways they just were 1 fairway to the right. LOL

Can't wait until next weekend and play a regular tourney next weekend and work on my regripping issue this week . My driver and wedge play today was great some of my mid and long iron play was a little suspect today along with missing a few puts.

Jack:  That "Aut-O-Sight" is a great putter - one of our Senior league players uses it and he is tough to beat on the green!   As you mention, a lot of problems just go away naturally when putting side-saddle.  I've tried a belly putter, a "short-stick" putter, and a bunch of regular-style putters but the "broom-stick" gives me the most consistent results.  What will they come up with next???   lol, lol.  Have a great day, R2
