Are you right eye dominant or left eye dominant? This is important to know when you're playing golf, because it could affect your alignment. Most of the world is right eye dominant, but there are some right handed and left handed golfers that are left eye dominant.
Golf balls can be expensive, so it's good to get as much use out of them as possible. But, when is the right time to pull a new ball out of the sleeve and into play? That's the answer Jim is looking for.
Because we use a limited turn swing, over rotating can play havoc on your results. Ian Doherty has been using the Peak Performance Golf Swing for over 2 years, and he recently came to realize that his struggles with his longer clubs were due to over rotating.
If you're taking a big divot every time you've got an iron in your hand, you're going to start feeling the physical effects sooner than later. Taking a shallow divot not only means better contact with the ball, but it will save your wrists, elbows, and shoulders from breaking down.
When you're faced with a shot that has a forced carry, you need to be able to get the ball up in the air. This is especially true for tee shots that have a forced carry to the fairway. Low, boring trajectory is good for playing in the wind and the ball rolls nicely down the fairway, but it won't... more
Hitting down on the ball is a swing thought that I've never agreed with. It's one of the biggest myths in golf, and has been taught for years and years. Instead, I like to think of swinging up to the finish, while nipping the ball off the ground with minimal divots.
Do you make solid contact with all of your golf clubs except your driver? Is it the one club that you just can't seem to hit? If you answered yes, you're just like Allen Hill. Struggling with one club usually means it's the arrow, not the indian.
Don,
Your hands are what connect you to your golf club, which means your grip plays an extremely important role in the success or failure of your ball striking. I always state that your palms must be perpendicular to the ground throughout the swing, which leads to what I call the 3 P, prayer position... more
Hitting a ball from a sidehill lie is a difficult shot. It's also hard to simulate on the practice range, which means you need to know the proper techniques for when you're faced with the situation on the course.
After such a compelling weekend of golf at The Open Championship, I thought I would keep it simple today and let you all lead the discussion on the message board below. Along with your comments about the tournament, I've provided you with some more talking points with today's video.
Sometimes I describe the Peak Performance Golf Swing as having a little bit of turn and a lot of lift. I also demonstrate the swing before every daily video so that you can see it in action. But, one viewer wrote in to say that he doesn't think I'm swinging the way I teach.
Whenever you find yourself putting for birdie, it's good to have a pendulum stroke that won't crack under the pressure. The same thought process or visualization can be used for your full swing too. This is a tip that Dave Pennell sent in recently.
By now, you're well into your golf season. That could mean subtle aches and pains could be creeping up due to playing so much golf. Elbow pain is one thing a lot of older golfers often play with, which is why I recently published a video offering up some elbow pain remedies.
Today's question comes from one of our most active users on the blog. Robert Meade often answers many of your questions because he has studied the Peak Performance Golf Swing for so long.
Many of you already know Mike Bartholomew as one of our certified PPGS Instructors. Mike's located in Mint Hill, North Carolina at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation. Yet, you might not know how Mike came to be a part of the Swing Surgeon family. It actually stemmed from Mike wanting to improve his... more
A couple weeks ago, I talked about Kenny Knox's chipping and pitching techniques. The reason why I first reached out to Kenny is because his short game philosophy falls in line with what I teach in the long game.
Today's video is all about vision. Many golfers wear glasses when they play golf, which is perfectly fine. However, there are certain types of frames and lenses that will hamper your game. I've got a lot of stories of students who have shown up to golf schools wearing bifocals and frames that... more
Rotational swingers swing around their bodies and get the club laid off. They swing into what I call the "sacred burial ground." You can stand in it, but if you swing in it, you're dead! Because the club gets laid off, it becomes a heavy club. It's a lot easier to swing a light club than a heavy... more
In honor of our country's independence day, I'm going to talk about the greatest American golfer that has ever played the game. Jack Nicklaus won more majors than any other golfer and was at the top of the game for decades.
To become a great ball striker, you first have to have the right equipment. Every golfer's body is different, so the clubs that work great for your buddy will most likely not work for you.
Today's "In Your Own Words" comes from Allen Fischer and has to do with posture. The setup determines the motion, so your posture plays a huge role in the success or failure of each shot.
Earlier this week, I visited Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation and shared a video I shot with Mike Bartholomew. During my visit, I also shot a video with our Director of Fitness, Health, and Nutrition, Wayne Coolidge. He's been working on his swing and after working together for the day, he improved... more
Today I'm going to answer a question sent in by Jerry about chipping and pitching. He references the video, Short Game with Kenny Knox, PGA and is looking for an explanation on Kenny's techniques.
The Peak Performance Golf Swing uses a limited turn. This is one aspect of the swing that I think gets overlooked. We don't want to have a big, rotational swing that gets us deep into the sacred burial ground, but there has to be a turn.
Mike Bartholomew is one of our knowledgeable, certified golf instructors here at Swing Surgeon.
