Dan sent in a question about golf gloves. He's new to the game and wondered if the wear on the glove would tell him if he had a good grip. That started me thinking about what a golf glove can tell us.
In this video I show you three of my gloves. One is really old and pretty dirty. There's slight wear on the heel and thumb. But other than that, there is no wear. Ditto on the second. The third is a new glove and it looks it. All three also show I have a good solid grip.
If your golf glove does show signs of wear, and pretty quickly, then that tells you there is something wrong with your grip. You might be holding the club too lightly or too firmly. The glove will show you if you're holding the club too much in the palm of your hand. It will show if you're letting it turn.
Dan, most golfers do wear gloves. They feel they can grip the club more firmly. That's what I feel. And, yes, it will tell you if you've got a good grip by showing no wear in any one spot.
Keep it vertical,

Hey folks.ÃÂ I am sorry I have not been on line much lately.ÃÂ I have just had enough time to read some of the posts.ÃÂ I have been swamped with work, thank God, and getting ready for my move.ÃÂ I am moving on Thursday.ÃÂ I will be glad to have all this behind me.
I worked Saturday at the course, then played a round.ÃÂ I went to the range for an hour before the round.ÃÂ I really worked on the stuff Steve, Robert, and oh yes, the Surge have been talking about lately with the take away, knees, and lag.ÃÂ It made such a big difference with my understanding of this swing.ÃÂ I pared the first 6 holes.ÃÂ I had a bogey on # 7.ÃÂ What a let down.ÃÂ Now that is funny, cause I am normally happy if I could play bogey golf for most of a round.
It is getting there.ÃÂ
I am going to be up to my ears with work and getting the last few things switched over to my new place so everything will be up and running when I get finished with the move.
Keep me in your prayers folks.ÃÂ I need them right now.
I will keep you posted,
Dick
Happy Anniversary, Boog. Here
Happy Anniversary, Boog. Here's hoping you double that number. May the Lord continue to bless you.
I used to buy whatever
I used to buy whatever Cabretta leather glove was in the shop when I needed a new glove and could find the cadet ML in stock. Last season I bought a 2-pack of Foot Joy's WeatherSof gloves and have really liked them. They work fine in the 100+ days here in Dallas, and seem to remain supple longer than the pure leather.
Yes, and I sent one back
Yes, and I sent one back asking if it would be possible to start a tad early?
You could take that even
You could take that even further with Surge's surgism that the ball doesn't know what club you're swinging. The only thing that should change from one club to another is your address position relative to the ball--and that only because of the physical differences in the clubs (except with the driver you also want to catch the ball on the upswing rather than at or just before the bottom of the swing). You should always have a plan when you go to the range, and one good thing to do is to "play" whatever course you're heading to for your next round or whatever course you last played. You can bring a card or your notebook with you with the various shots marked out in it and once you've loosened up, actually hit all of the shots in your plan, switching clubs pretty much every time up and down through your bag. Surge has mentioned before that he thinks this is a good way to practice, as well as focused practice on individual problem clubs or shots.
I read or heard somewhere
I read or heard somewhere about a drill to check grip pressure during the swing, Grip the club normally with your left hand(for right handers), take a tee and insert it in between the club handle and the crook in your little finger, grip with your right hand and take some swings. If the tee falls out then your grip pressure is not constant, or the club is moving in your hands.
Happy anniversary to you and
Happy anniversary to you and your bride. May God bless you both with many more happy years together. It is truly special to continue with the love of your youth,ÃÂ grow old together, and rear your family, as you watch the cycle repeat. Families are what life is all about, in what ever form they take in this modern world. God bless you and yours.
Boy there was a local "bummer
Boy there was a local "bummer" in golf yesterday.
Two kids from here in Fort Payne, and first cousins, were first and second after Saturday's round in the Alabama State Amatuer golf tournament.
One had a five stroke lead going into the final round. Fell apart on the greens on Sunday and finished tied for third with his cousin. :-(
Good evening all, I can't
Good evening all, I can't comment on today's video. Here at the Courtyard Marriott Trussville,Alabama with a nearly pegged signal strength I can't get the video to complete buffering
either embedded here or directly from youtube, go figure. Never have any trouble with my weak signal at the Hall some 3 miles down the road or at home. Oh, we had a AC problem at the house earlier today & the Missus booked us in here for the night. Once the AC decided it was just kidding, she had already promised Joshua an evening of swimming in the Hotel pool and who can break a promise to a kid so here I am. I'll watch the video in the morning and make a proper comment then.I'm thinking the Courtyard Management is a bunch of rotational swingers and that's the problem.
Hit 'em straight, PMG & Happy Golfing everyone!

Congrats, DJ, very nice finish in the St. Jude's Classic

Wouldn't it be funny if Google decided to play a practical joke and you were actually cursing someone out? LOL
Terry, it depends on my
Terry, it depends on my pocket book that week but I normally just get 'footjoys' right and left too, the same ones Surge happen to show a close up of in the glove videoblog. As for gips,ÃÂ I have been using the Wynn large grips for a couple of years for my jacked hands. My new sticks will actually have Jumbo Max grips(see www.jumbomax.com). Tried them out two weeks ago during my fitting andÃÂ my fitter said they are not only great for damping vibration and shock for the hands but help many young and old in general- see web site fo possibleÃÂ advantages. I'll know more soon.ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ
Hey Craig, The regripping
Hey Craig, The regripping could be happening anywhere but likely somewhere at the top or in your transition from the topÃÂ and into the FUS where we "throw on the coal!"ÃÂ of courseÃÂ I went to the archives and presto an article by Surge on" Grip pressure: make it constant." He made several points but the two key ones were to check if the grips are right for you and make sure you are keeping it 3/4's. A backswing that is too long,ie. past parallel makes us fight gravity and may cause regripping.
Craig have you changed your grips lately? Are they old, worn?On that note are your gloves old and dry?ÃÂ If not, how about the size of your grips. Many of us are going to larger softer grips. (read Terry and myÃÂ comments below about jumbo grips). Also there are grips that have more tapper from butt end to shaft. This could enable an easier time holding on with constant pressure. Too read that artical from Surge. Let me know.
