Men and Women and The Surge Swing

Mon, 05/30/2011 - 10:45 -- Don Trahan

On this Memorial Day, I would like to take time to thank our nation's military men and women, past and present, for their strong sense of commitment and and their unflinching willingness to sacrifice all to keep us safe and free. So if you see a vet or someone on active duty today, please take the time to thank them for their service.

**************************

Finally, I have the opportunity to talk about that which is as important to me as a golf instructor and as a person. You maybe know the '€œSurgism'€ that says the ball doesn'€™t know who is holding the club. Well, let me expand on that a little.

The wife of one of our members suggested that, basically, the Surge Swing was for guys, not her. There are a few LPGA pros that would more than argue that point. No matter what sex, race, religion, age, weight, height, country of origin, the ball doesn'€™t know who is holding the club! The game of golf is the ultimate equalizer. And that'€™s how I teach.

As a matter of fact, women and children are usually more flexible than guys, which means their swings can alter more dramatically. And since women do not typically have the upper body strength as men, the Surge Swing is all the more important to the ladies. The Surge Swing is economical. It produces the most power for the least effort. The Surge Swing is controlled. A woman'€™s flexibility is harnessed to product super straight shots.

Thank you, members, for bringing this topic up!

Keep it vertical,

The Surge!

Great report pal.

I am with you on the practice routine.  I am at the place where I spend somewhere around 20-25% of my time at the range.  The rest is on the short game and putting.  Lately I have been almost 100% on the short game and putting while I was healing up a bit.

I look forward to your future after action reports.  Keep up the great work.

It is really great to be able to play and practice as much as we want, and with no pain.

Thanks Surge,
Dick

If You are interested, take a look at this link for a short, but interesting history lesson concerning the little red flowers that are given away on Memorial Day.

Nope, it is never time to be a sheepeople and go along with the crowd.

I have to be able to look at this mug in the mirror when I am shaving.  I can't do that if I don't say what needs to be said.  I finally figured out what you are talking about.  We all have different ways of handling issues.  I have used the button a couple of times too.  If it gets personal or real stupid I have no problem doing that.   Most of the time, I prefer to give them a little swat to see if that solves the problem first.

Don't go getting all PC on me.

As to the other unnecessary drivel, I don't know what you mean.  You know I only talk about golf on this site.

I am pretty strict about that.  Well, golf and food.  Ok, golf, food, weather, kids, grandkids, military, trucks, guns, motorcycles, cigars, ect, and God.  Other than those few "off topic" things, I am strictly about golf on here.

Troll Alert.  I'm biting my tongue and trying to be good.  My blood pressure is up and I'm gritting my teeth.  I may print that post and tape to my golf bag.  I bet I could get an extra 100 yards on my tee shots.

I know this is a bit late but as an Aussie living in a free country I dips my lid to all the men and women of Uncle Sam's military service, past and present, on your Remembrance Day.  I will remember, lest we forget, the efforts, sacrifices and tragic losses of those who have gained and maintained the "luxury" of living in a free world which is unfortunately taken too much for granted.

Hooraa, Regards, Craig

Mike,
Probably about as painful & possible as kneeing yourself in the left eye socket but since that wasn't golf related... "Please take care to repair pitch marks when you reach the green", I could be in the next group and stumble on one and break something.

Dick, I had a busy golfing day yesterday and was unable to get any blog time. Catching up a little this morning before venturing out again for another 27 hole day. It is truly great to hear about your son getting out of harms way. I am sure that the entire family is over joyed. May God bless and keep him safely in his arms through his journey.  Get ready to celebrate, the blessings are upon you.

Thanks for the after action report.  Got to love those Eagles.  I know what you mean about the wind.

In Oklahoma you have three choices.
1.  Play in the wind.
2.  Don't play in the wind.
3.  Move out of state, and hope the wind doesn't follow you just for spite.

Thanks for your service at the post.  It is great to have a place to go and hang out with other vets.  Great job on the dinner and glad you were able to raise a bunch of money for the post.

Hope you are snoring by now, you earned it.

I used to read that every Memorial Day at one of the large services we did in south Florida.  It always breaks me up.  It seems to mean even more when my own sons are down range.

Without all the family support, and all the other folks who love our military, they would just not be able to do what we ask them to do.  No matter how many bullets you have in your weapon, you can only last so long without the beans and supplies it takes to keep an army moving.

You are Semper Fi pal,
Dick

It was my attempt at a "swat".  I'm not here to offend or start any wars, so will just observe and put myself in a "no fly zone".  A self-imposed timeout if you will.  I plan to play tomorrow so the little white ball is gonna pay...lol.

Hope you get out and enjoy yourself.  It's nice you have something posive to celebrate.

I agree totally with the fact that you a true beginner.  And none of it has to do with golf.  Start with a lesson in basic manners.

In honor of Memorial Day you can drop and give me 50 and you are now on KP for the rest of your life.  Dismissed.

The new video is Flash video. You should check that your browser and Flash player are completely up-to-date. And, as noted by Terry below, you can always click the YouTube link to watch the video as it was before. Most problems viewing streaming video happen somewhere from the end-user's ISP to their actual machine. The quality and capacity of the lines used by your service provider, the quality of your household router, the number of people in your area connected, all of these things can effect your viewing experience and are completely beyond the control of the Swing Surgeon tech people.

Aside to Tech Gurus: Do you think the page would be too messy if you embedded both the flash video and the YouTube? I'm sure people would find some other reason to complain about that, but it might be a new complaint. ;-)

Thanks so much for sharing that story with us.  I knew of the basic history of the poppies we wear, but not nearly all those details.

I am going to bed tonight a smarter and happier man than the one who woke up in my bed this morning.

Ernie,

First, if you stick with a preference for slick style over substance, you'll find it difficult to progress from being a true beginner. You'll find that most of the regulars on this site like Don just the way he is, with lots of substance and his own style.

This is Surge, live and unrehearsed, taking time out of his day to share helpful stuff with us. These daily tips are not here to teach us the swing. They're here to help us learn the swing which is taught in the video lessons and Foundations Manual and by Don and his squad of Swing Surgeon Certified instructors across the country (a list many of us hope continues to grow to include professionals in our immediate areas).

As for what I assume is your question about Peak Performance Golf, that was Don's old site with his old marketing partners. They had a falling out over the direction of the site and so far as I know, the actual Peak Performance Golf site is gone. They are competitors of Don's now, teaching a fairly standard rotational swing. There is no connection any longer between the operators of that site and the folks running this site (which is mostly Don and family).

You are killing me pal.  I was laughing so hard, I hurt my ribs again.  Thanks.  Now I have to start my rehab all over again.  I am going to tell the doctor tomorrow that you caused it.  I will have him send you the bill.

You made me think of an old joke.  Here it is.  It ain't golf.  Too bad.  For those of you who are offended when we go "off golf" just stop reading right here.

KISSING A BIKER

A tough looking group of bikers were riding when they saw a girl about to jump off a bridge, so they stopped.

The leader, a big burly retired Navy Master Chief , got off his bike and said, "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to commit suicide," she said.

While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn't want to miss an opportunity, so he asked, "Well, before you jump, why don't you give me a kiss ?"

She did, and it was a long, deep lingering kiss.

After she'd finished, the biker said, "Wow! That was the best kiss I ever had.   That's a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous. Why are you committing suicide ?"

"My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl......."

You can't say I didn't warn you,
Dick

Thanks Amos,

I remember my parents saying that when their relatives serving in the North of France during  WW1 they referred to the American US serviceman (the Canadians were with them at the start) as the "Johnny come lately's" BUT with the proviso that "thank f*@% that they're here!".

It was only through a history lesson, in particular a Ken Burns documentary about the American Civil War, that I understood somewhat the reluctance of the American people to enter a major conflict.

I grew up in a small country town of about 2000 people, during the civil war in America both sides would have company's of fighting soldiers made up of guys from their small home towns, similar in size to my own, fighting together.   During a particularly ferocious battle the small town company of soldiers could find them selves in a particularly tight spot on the battle field, (or "warm" spot), and then all of a sudden there are no more young men alive from that small town (90 to 100% casualty rates were not uncommon).  That just absolutely devastates me and brings tears to my eyes.

The club heads are all Tom Wishon brand with SKF graphite shafts. The clubs are all from the 730CL model at the Wishon site. The C9sw, was for a C9 swing weight on the driver. The wedges are the Wishon PCF Micro Tour, in platinum nickel finish, PW, GW, SW. I may decide to get the 60* lob at a later date.

This is mostly for Steve and Kevin, and some of the others who have the room to hit golf balls in your yard.

It cracked me up.  Someone just sent me a whole list of complaints people have turned in to their local police department.

# 4.  The neighbor's 18 year old son is continually banging his balls against my fence.

I think that might be golf related. If not, I hope it is a baseball or something like that.

I don't make this stuff up folks,

Craig63:

That attitude goes back at least as far as George Washington and his farewell address regarding "avoiding getting entangeld in European squabbles"
We have always had a large segment of the population that suppoerted a "stay out of it" attitude - with many leading figures involved.  Example" just prior to World War II, Charles Lindbergh was the spokesperson for the "America First" committee.  Immediately after Peral Harbor, the committee disbanded and became heavily involved in the war effort -- specially Lindbergh.

    Two important dates coming up:

June 4-6, 1942 - Battle of Midway - "the end of the beginning in the Pacific"

June 6, 1944 -- D-Day -- Allied invasion to liberate Europe from the Nazi Occupation.

D-Day gets most of the press -- but if the US had LOST at Midway, D-Day would have been delayed at least 9 to 12 months, due to POLITICAL pressure in the USA -- NOT due to Military conditions.

My .02 on "recent" USA history
