On this Memorial Day, I would like to take time to thank our nation's military men and women, past and present, for their strong sense of commitment and and their unflinching willingness to sacrifice all to keep us safe and free. So if you see a vet or someone on active duty today, please take the time to thank them for their service.

Finally, I have the opportunity to talk about that which is as important to me as a golf instructor and as a person. You maybe know the 'Surgism' that says the ball doesn't know who is holding the club. Well, let me expand on that a little.
The wife of one of our members suggested that, basically, the Surge Swing was for guys, not her. There are a few LPGA pros that would more than argue that point. No matter what sex, race, religion, age, weight, height, country of origin, the ball doesn't know who is holding the club! The game of golf is the ultimate equalizer. And that's how I teach.
As a matter of fact, women and children are usually more flexible than guys, which means their swings can alter more dramatically. And since women do not typically have the upper body strength as men, the Surge Swing is all the more important to the ladies. The Surge Swing is economical. It produces the most power for the least effort. The Surge Swing is controlled. A woman's flexibility is harnessed to product super straight shots.
Thank you, members, for bringing this topic up!
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

Steve,
Steve,
Being able to play the great rounds that you do with a swing like that - Whoa! ;-D
Seriously though, at the top, your right elbow is way too high, but as you drop back down into the slot, you get it right back where it should be. I cannot even come close to doing that. A question - do you have your right knee kicked in slightly at setup or am I just seeing things in this video?

Sounds like you have the golf thing happening up there.ÃÂ I am glad to hear that you are making up for lost time from the winter.

Thanks so much.ÃÂ You are more than welcome.
The funny thing is that I think I am more proud of my sons who are serving than I am of my time in the Marine Corps.
I guess we all did what we needed to do when it was our time to serve.
I appreciate your comments and your concern,
Dick
Hello Dick,
Hello Dick,
I've still got a bit of stray energy after your latest crackup, so I think I'll spend it here since I missed the last couple of days.
I was matched up with a couple of decent hitters Saturday, and when I told them my handicap, they were pretty receptive to competing against me.ÃÂ However, when I smashed my first drive down the middle and thirty yards past them, they accused me of carrying a large bag of sand and spreading it liberally during our introduction :0)
Well, I ended up with a bogey for my effort by wasting that gorgeous drive with an immediate shank which left me thirty yards right of and short of the green.ÃÂ I was actualy pretty lucky to hit a nice chip to within four feet before missing an easy putt for par.
We ended up playing pretty even, and we beat them by one stroke during the match.
The squirrels and dumplings were very active, and helped me with all of my drives, but seemed to abandon me on all four par 3's.ÃÂ I missed all four par 3 greens, and only parred two of them.
I mentioned earlier that the greens were really lousy.ÃÂ Palmer used to have greens that were the envy of the state, but this year, they lost them badly.ÃÂ A couple of weeks ago, Steve and I discussed Bent Grass and how prone it was to dying off.ÃÂ We also discussed top dressing and how it can affect the surface of a green.
Palmer's greens are planted with Eighteenth Green Bent.ÃÂ When it grows, it is fantastic, but this year, they really suffered and never fully germinated.ÃÂ The grounds crew also over sanded the greens, with the result being a surface which included dozens of mini bunkers on most putting surfaces.ÃÂ My putting suffered as a result, and I never really adjusted until it was too late.
I really enjoy that course, because it is the only links course around, so I hope they can recover.
Well, my energy is almost all used up, so I think I'll call it a day.
Hit'em Long and Straight,
Bob

Kevin,
I'm surprised you are even able to hack your way around the course at all with the swing you have. The last time I saw swings like that my neighbor was splitting his woodpile. "Whoa!"
No thanks on you telling me how to hit a golf ball.
You don't even recognize what it looks like in a stance where the left foot is downhill 6 inches below the right foot. I would explain the right elbow in PRACTICE but I've wasted enough time.
Keep hacking that ball and thinking you know something.

That should answer the nay sayers comments about Surge not reading the blog.ÃÂ It would appear to me that Surge, Doc, and a bunch of the other instructors pay attention and are here a lot.ÃÂ I love it.
Thanks for your kind words.ÃÂ As I told the folks at church yesterday, none of us would be able to pack up and leave our homes without the loving support of the families left to tend to the home fires.ÃÂ I have always said that the toughest job in the world is to be the parent, spouse, child, or any close relative of a military/law enforcement/fire fighter servant.ÃÂ Being a part of a Marine family, you know what I am talking about.ÃÂ Folks like yourself make it possible for those serving to stay focused on the job.
Top, you should be proud of the son you raised.

Hi Kevin.
Hi Kevin.
Not sure about Steve, but my right knee IS slightly in at address. Otherwise, I can't generate any sensation of weight over orÃÂ into my arches, even with zero outward leg pressure. ÃÂ My legs and ankles are just built that way.ÃÂ
So at setup and it looks like this : accordion set-up, LEFT kneeÃÂ stays out flared out Surge style, right knee comes in a bit, and upper body gently barely tipping to finish pre-load right. NOW I can feel it in BOTH arches, and feel on balance. Gratefully, I find that my hip & upper body turn is still limited, even with this adjustment.

We have always had a great relationship with your country.ÃÂ If it had not been for being able to use your country as a staging area, we would have been hard put to begin our "island hopping" campaign in the pacific.ÃÂ You guys were right there with us all the way through.ÃÂ A good portion of the coast watchers and behind enemy linesÃÂ spotters were older Aussies who had lived on the islands and knew the local people.ÃÂ They were a great source of intelligence about enemy troop and ship movement, especially those involved in the "Tokyo Express."ÃÂ It was dangerous work, and you lost a lot of great people in that effort.
If my mind is still functioning, I think you folks have had troops in every major conflict we have been in since WWI.ÃÂ Free peoples tend to concentrate more on what we have in common than on our differences.ÃÂ I have not met too many Aussies I did not like. And, your country for the most part is not consumed with the "politically correct" crap that has eaten up the rest of the world.
Thanks for your kind words.ÃÂ We are blessed to have you as a regular in the Surge Nation.ÃÂ We are like a modern day version of the old empire, in that "The Sun never sets on the Surge Nation."

Don as usual another great
Don as usual another great video.
Well I played Sat. and Sun played the same course both days. We played the back tees just short of 6700 yards and shot a 84 Saturday had a 8 on the par 5 8th hole 612 yards their is a little shoot that is about 20 yards wide about 50 yards off the tee with trees on both sides clipped one of the trees with my tee shot and fell well short of the fairway in deep rough and had to hack it out from there and had a couple doubles. Sunday played the same course same tees and shot 80 parred the 612 par five this time. Today we played our home course 6200 yards shot 77 and lipped out 3 four foot birdie puts other than that played pretty well all weekend.
My practice routine for a while is going to be twice a week maybe hit 50 -ÃÂ 60 full swing shots working on the fundamentals as long as 90 % of them are good solid straight shots then work on 100 yards and in for 2 - 3 hours . I am finally starting to play a lot better and consistent. I do not want to spend all summer working on the full swing like I did last year and ignoring the short game. If I start hitting bad shots on a consistent basis Then I will work on the problem.
Its nice to be able to practice twice a week and play 3 times a week and not have a sore back.

Ernie, This video was not meant to help YOU. I believe that is why you did not understand the true message of the video. Surge emphasized over and over, IF YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING, then this applies to you. You obviously are not human and lack any and all humanity or humaneness. Just skip the videos which apply to humans from now on, and only watch the one's which apply to your own species. That will be very helpful to you in your quest for knowledge. Why in the world would someone like you want to learn anything about what might help other, that's just ludicrous.ÃÂ Good luck to you and your species.

Hi Dick,
Hi Dick,
I'm exhausted after a 27 hour day at the American Legion Hall where four of us stayed up all night roasting a whole pig for our Memorial Day celebration.ÃÂ Lots of beer was consumed for a worthy cause, and we raised over $1100.00 for the post.
ÃÂ Your sense of humor has once again, cracked me up and revived me for a short time.
A short report on my Saturday golf outing.
My partner and I finished the tourney with a net 74 and were out of the money.ÃÂ I hit all of the fairways, but not too many greens.ÃÂ Several three putts cost us any chance to win.
I consoled myself with a re-round and won seven skins and knocked a 134 yard 8 iron into the hole for eagle on the par four 10th.ÃÂ What a rush!ÃÂ It helped to carry me to a round of 86 on a course with really lousy greens and howling winds that hit 40 mph.
Well, I think I'll catch an hour or ten of sleep, work like a galley slave, and hit the links again tomorrow.
Hit'em Long and Straight,
Bob
Did you check the volume
Did you check the volume setting on the player? I had to turn mine down to 2 because the video was too loud otherwise. Volume is the series of 8 rectangles on the right side of the video progress bar. Press the one where you want the volume set (right most is loudest) and you'll see them change blue for on or grey for off. Also check your computer's volume settings as gremlins sneak in at night and reset people's computer settings.

I told the greens keeper out here after their last sand attack on the greens that I have done amphibious operations in the Corps when I didn't get as much sand on my boots.ÃÂ I guess they got a good deal on a load of sand.ÃÂ The greens are really getting nice now.ÃÂ I hope yours will come around soon.
Being aggravated with the greens can throw off the rest of your game if you can't let it go and not let it get your mind off the game.ÃÂ You just have to shake it off, and remember that the other guys have the same thing going on as you do.
Easier said than done.

Surge, your points on how the swing helps all body types, male, female, young , old , big or small holds true. though i have a fairly normal build I recently reviewed and video taped my swing and found my arms and swing weer getting too close to my stomach and chest on the way back because of not keeping the arms away from the body and getting too far inside the toeline and not into where the "catchers mit" is located. this got me back into the SBG at the top with only the infamous out to in and across possiblr from a bad position at the top. Fixed it asap and now it's much better. So what you said today was spot on for all.

Our civil war was the last major war fought with old tactics of massing large groups of troops and just walking into the enemy fire.ÃÂ The problem with that method was that our civil war was also the first major war fought with a whole lot of new weapon systems.ÃÂ It was the first major war in which a lot of infantry had rifled barrels, cartridge type bullets, repeating rifles, accurate artillery, and machine guns.ÃÂ It was like stuffing meat into a sausage grinder.
More Americans died in our civil war than all our other wars combined.
It was not uncommon for all the men in a whole family to die in action in the same day.

It is in the parents manual, I forget the page, we are supposed to worry about them.ÃÂ I now have a much better understanding of what I must have put my father through when I volunteered for the Corps right before the end of the Vietnam war.ÃÂ Sorry for the sleepless nights dad.
I would gladly trade places with either one of them when they are down range.ÃÂ But as I have been told, war is not a game for old busted up fat guys.ÃÂ Personally I think they should have a couple of battalions of us old guys.ÃÂ Hell, I am grumpy when I get up in the morning anyway.ÃÂ I would love to see some moron try messing with a bunch of guys that are already in pain from our backs, knees, and shoulders.ÃÂ Never mess with an old man with one worn out gun, he probably knows how to use it.
