Do toes come into play in the Surge Swing? Leigh had back surgery and part of the result was nerve damage to his toes. He says he can't get the correct balance in the Surge Swing. He needs help and I have the answer.
Leigh, if your weight is too far forward you're going to be out of balance in your setup. In the Surge Swing we don't depend on toes. My guess is that you may be leaning too far into the ball at setup. To get a balanced swing you need to be on your arches, not toes.
My next suggestion would be that you may be getting into the Sacred Burial Ground (SBG) in the backswing and are reaching for the ball, causing you to fall or come forward in your swing. That's not unusual after back surgery.
My suggestion? Get your weight off your toes and don't lunge at the ball. Check out those two areas and we'll get you hitting straight and long in no time.
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

High Shortgamewizard,
Thank you for replying.
The cupping of my left (forward) handÃÂ I was referring to was actually at address. I tend to have the butt end of the club pointing at my belly, especially with the driver. If I move the butt end forward as in the Y position I don't have the cupping. I start with the shaft forward & then tend to move it back causing the cupping.
Do you think it is okay with the driver to do this?
Thanks,
Eric
Hi coach, and champion
Hi coach, and champion provider of information that most of us seem to recall but cant find. Since the move from the old site, I cant find a video/DVD (not a daily one I believe) in which Don showed how to draw and fade the ball.ÃÂ I have tried thru the search button to find this with no joy so far.ÃÂ can you help please?

DickS,
DickS,
It's not just about tempo. It's about ensuring that you are accelerating through the ball along the aiming line and releasing the stored energy of your body as fully as possible. The position you reach at the finish is largely determined by what was happening just prior to impact, so striving for the correct finish actually gets you to do the correct things at impact.
Many things can cause us to
Many things can cause us to hit the ball fat but the most common that I see out of the guys out on our course is reverse weight shift instead of finishing through the ball with the weight on the forward side.
For me personally the cause of probably 80% of the fat shots that I hit is because I'm not keeping my head stable and letting it dip. The other 20% is from decelerating into the ball, mostly on less than full shots to which I'm not committed and afraid of the distance.

Ricjoy, I would recommend
Ricjoy, I would recommend that you try to start with a flat wrist and maintain it throughout the entire swing, for better results and better consistency. However, having said that, the MOST important thing is to MAINTAIN the same position of the wrist position you have at address set up throughout the entire swing. It is the changing of position that causes the most problems. If you start with a bowed left wrist, you need to keep the exact bowed position throughout the entire swing. Keeping the bow is generally harder to do, then just keeping it flat. Here is an old lesson from Surge on the wrists, and also an Ebay link to a great and cheap training aid which I use and recommend to others.ÃÂ Good luck

That's fine if that's the reason, but, this is the first time I've had that. I'm on the post notification email and every other time, even a day ahead, it always plays at the Utube site as soon as it's posted there.
Technically it may not but it
Technically it may not but it is very hard to be consistent without it because swinging on that path up to a good finish is what makes it possible to repeat the swing (any swing) time after time.
And I don't do a very good job of that at all (something I am working on). My total lack of a finish is more than likely one of the reasons for inconsistencies from swing to swing. It doesn't mean that I am not going to hit a good shot, even with very little finish. It just means that I may not hit that good shot quite as often, and that's what really playing well is all about.
Usually I notice that the better the player the better (and more consistent) a finish they have.
Maybe some day I'll get it down but right now on the course I forget about it and get lost in the moment after contact is made.

I hope all you folks had a great day.ÃÂ After church I went to the course and chipped and putted for about three hours.
We had a great service at church today.ÃÂ Most of it was dedicated to veterans and Memorial Day.ÃÂ I was blessed to be able to read the names of all those currently serving overseas from our church family.ÃÂ We got to take another name off the list today, as one of the young lads had just came home to be with his family.
As part of the Memorial Day service,ÃÂ I read the following to our congregation.ÃÂ It's been around for a while, but I thought I would share with you guys.ÃÂ I hope it touches you as much as to touched me.

Today, we celebrate, remember, and honor those who gave it all.
ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,

I think that would depend on
I think that would depend on your build and the club you're using. The recommendation in the Swing Surgeon Swing setup is that your heels should never get further apart than the width of your shoulders with the longest club, and should be slightly narrower for the shorter clubs to about the armpits at the narrowest. Width of stance in this swing is determined by your heels, not your toes or the centers of your feet, given the flared position of the feet. There is room for variation depending on your own body, but make all adjustments in careful increments to see what works best for you. Going at it willy-nilly can lead to disaster and blaming this swing for a failure in your execution.

Thanks for providing this Memorial Day reminder of Who really provides us our freedoms and peach here in the USA and also around the world.

Thanks for posting the link,
Thanks for posting the link, Mike. After 5 months of winter layoff and 2 months of incessant rain here in NW central Ohio, we're finally getting in a few rounds of golf, even though in mud slop and overgrown fairways and rough. I started the 3/4ÃÂ vertical swing late last summer. and made some progress, but it disappeared with the layoff.ÃÂ In attacking the rank growth that the golf course owner couldn't keep up with, I was trying to power every shot and was really struggling the last couple weeks by coming over the top. Then, thinking about Don's video on Swing Thoughts, I came up with "tuck and lift" for the back swing and , "tuck and lift" for the down swing and follow through to the T finish. It reminds me to tuck the right elbow in as IÃÂ go toe up into the mit, and get ready for the lift, and subsequently gets me to drop into the "slot" for the forward upswing. For the first time in a long time I parred two of the first three holes when I went out this morning. The rest of the round was pretty much practice, but with a lot better looking shots than I had been making. I rattled the stick on nine with a hot wedge shot that was dead on, and dropped 5 feet from the cup. Even though a flying right elbow isn't a bad thing at the right time, tucking it in is a good thing at the right time.

Steve
I guess I'm a bit of an A type (understatement).ÃÂ When I started jogging in my lateÃÂ thirties it was to drop a few pounds.ÃÂ About a month into that I thought maybe I should find a race to test my progress.ÃÂ But, rather than a 5k or a 10k Mr Hardhead decided my first race should be a marathon...lol.ÃÂ I just had to prove to myself that I could do it.ÃÂ I ran it about six months later in 95* heat and 90% humidity and it was only 3-4 days before I could walk normally again...LOL.ÃÂ A sane person would have quit at about the 17 mile mark when I hit the "wall", but not me.
I approach golf the same way.ÃÂ I'm pretty much self taught after my old neighbor (God rest his soul)ÃÂ got me started with the basics.ÃÂ It has been pretty much trial and error til I found Surge.ÃÂ For me, it's Surge's straightforward common sense method that seems to fit.ÃÂ Maybe it's because we both come from New England backrgounds, who knows?ÃÂ Golf isÃÂ not a sprint but a marathon learning process and if anyone can coach me through it, Surge is my guy.

No, it's not ok to do that.
No, it's not ok to do that. You're moving the hands without moving the club head which puts everything out of position and causes you to have to make compensatory moves to get the club head to "catch up" to the hands which is usually accomplished by a quick rolling of the hands which will put the club inside and flat.
Proper set up always has the hands in a straight line with the shoulder to the club head and they stay in that same relationship throughout the swing.

I must have shown up here after that occurred.ÃÂ That will just piss me off if it is an imposter.ÃÂ I might violate my own "no troll swatting" rule.ÃÂ Actually, replace the word "might" with "will."ÃÂ I will have to find that boy and show him a little red dot on his forehead.ÃÂ And, it won't be the kind you can scratch off to see if you just won a 7-11 franchise.ÃÂ I just clicked on the fake picture thing and this one only has 2 comments and they are both in the last 24 hours.ÃÂ I think I smell a rat.ÃÂ I hope I don't.ÃÂ
Don't play with me boys, there ain't but one Surge in the whole world.ÃÂ I still have contacts "on the job" and I can find you if you piss me off enough.ÃÂ I have enough "nerves" going on right now without anything else getting started.ÃÂ Don't push me over the edge.ÃÂ Just remember back to the movie, I think it was "Falling Down" and I think it was Michael Douglas.ÃÂ Don't make me "Fall Down."ÃÂ I won't go quietly into the night, and I won't go alone.
Glad I got that off my chest, I feel just a little bit better now.

I have a little cup with all clubs. It helps me stay parallel left with my shoulders. When I straight line the forward arm the shoulders aim to the right.
Roy, my elbow only passes
Roy, my elbow only passes through the tuck position as I reach the toe up position, then it moves up as I lift to the top of my back swing. it only passes back through the tuck position as I bump and drop going to the forward up swing. If I don't, I truly do have a horrible flying right elbow and my swing resembles something more akin to chopping wood.

I was suspicious the moment I saw it.

I think it's a case of finding a tempo that works consistently.ÃÂ I can be, at times, one of those people who lets his brain get in the way ofÃÂ just making a nice smooth swing.ÃÂ I can analyze things to death...lol.ÃÂ My tempo is somewhere between Surge and a Vienna waltz.
I think you may be right in that it's closer to Surge because it gives my brain less time to think about it.ÃÂ Surge's method is right for me.ÃÂ I'm always going to be a work in progress, but that's the fun part of this game we all love to hate.ÃÂ Golf is a four letter word for a reason, I guess.ÃÂ ;0)

Mudster, It will definitely
Mudster, It will definitely help, but it will be longer and harder to learn the swing by just viewing the daily videos. If you click on the Surge's shop link, you will see the list of full swing system instruction. I understand any hesitation in diving fully into a buying spree, but, the one single purchase that will be the most beneficial is the Instruction Manual at $19.99. Less then most rounds of golf and a must for learning the system. It will explain everything to you, and IF, at a later time you decide you would like to see video demonstration instructions, you can then purchase some of the digital DVDs. One thing to keep in mine though. All purchases of Manual and DVDs are, on line digital copies for you to download to your hard drive and not physical hard copies. You can, after downloading them, print the manual or make DVD copies on your own, or even download them onto a smart phone or other portable memory device of any kind.ÃÂ You can also ask question and solicit advice at any time through this blog site. Good luck in your learning quest.
