Ouch. Ball marks high on the clubface will tell you instantly you've got a problem. You are obviously not hitting the ball in the sweet spot and, most likely, you're hitting pop ups all over the place. But have no fear, the cure is pretty simple.
The first obvious clue is that you're teeing the ball too high. That's simple enough to fix. There are some golfers that swear teeing it high gives them a better advantage off the tee. Some say teeing it low is a big help. Bottom line, ball and sweet spot must meet at impact. Don't complicate it.
Ball position is another easy fix. If you're teeing up too far ahead, you're probably lunging for the ball, moving forward before you even get to the ball!
Then there's alignment. If you're aligned too far left (or right for lefties) you're going to be coming over the top and struggling to get to the ball.
Tee height, ball position, alignment: check out those three to stop hitting from the top of the clubface.
Keep it vertical,

Hey Dave,
Hey Dave,
Did you check out this video about hitting banana balls? http://swingsurgeon.com/DailyV...
Also check the motion of your lower body. If there's too much turn, either in the back swing or starting the FUS, you can end up across the line coming into impact.
Dick,
Dick,
Congratulations on finishing 3rd in your flight in the club championship.ÃÂ And, another big round of applause for your hole in one.ÃÂ With 24 players in your group, it sounds like you got of easy with your $100.00 credit covering the bar tab.ÃÂ Did they all drink bottled water?

There are times in chipping
There are times in chipping that Surge recommends a weaker (hands rotated toward the target) grip to ensure that you do not let the club face close over the ball and smother it. That's the only time I can think of where a variation in the grip is recommended.
The position of my hands are
The position of my hands are as close to exactly the same during the entire swing as I am capable of doing once the back swing has started so nothing that I did at address makes it either easier or harder to do anything to do with the lift. The club head is just at a slightly different angle during the swing if I adjust my grip either stronger or weaker.
I try to start out with my hands in a neutral position as Surge advocates but, like it or not, sometimes I have to adjust my hands a little stronger or weaker as I go depending on what the ball is doing after I hit it.
My goal out there is not to have a perfectly neutral grip. My goal is for the ball to go where I want it to go.
If I'm showing a tendency to miss right I roll both hands clockwise at address a little to make sure I'm not going to be OB right.
If I'm showing a tendency to miss left (more likely for me) I roll my hands at address a little to make sure I'm not too far left.
Since there is very little trouble left on the course I play I usually end up with a little stronger grip than neutral. You just CAN'T miss right on that course.
I know we are supposed to use a neutral grip but I'm not stupid enough to throw away a round just to prove that I can get around the course with a neutral grip.
When I say I roll my hands at address to compensate for what my swing is doing that day (or at that time) it usually isn't much and as I said once the back swing has started I don't even know how strong or weak the grip was at address. At that point I am just swinging the handle and trying to do it the same every time (even though I fall far short of that, but hey, it's the best I can do).
I see people sometimes hit slices or hooks all day long and never adjust their grip and then have nerve enough after the round to complain about the score they shot. I'm sitting their thinking "heck, why didn't you do something about it?".
I play golf with the same philosophy as the old saying that "The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."
If I felt the same every day and had basically the same speed and strength every day I wouldn't have to make adjustments on the fly as often as I do.
That is clearly evident when I have a week off from work.

Hey "T", thanks for the link. I watched with great interest as he was hitting the balls. It seems to me that when he hit the low shots more weight was on his left side than his right.ÃÂ
Anyone out there who disagrees with me please say so but it sure looks like that to me. If this video was all about spine tilt, that's fine, but it also looks like a matter of weight distribution as well. Thanks again for the link, and hit 'em straight.

Dear Surge, Just thought that
Dear Surge, Just thought that I would let you know how much your Teaching has helped me to strike the ball consistently well, especially off the tee with my driver. I have played the game on and off for some twenty years, but did not have any lessons hoping to sort myself out. As a result, I tried everything to correct my failings without much success until watching your videos and getting to understand how the swing can be made more simple and produce consistent strikes with any club. I struggled at first as I did not really commit to your teachings and did not trust your sound wisdom. However, I have had 3/4 months off work after a total knee replacement operation and I decided to become a real student of the 'peak performance swing' by watching your daily videos and purchasing your driver video. I have to tell you that I now ÃÂ fully understand your principles and can put them into practice without hesitation and the increase in my confidence, swing and contact as a result will eventually revolutionise my game.
ÃÂ Although I am still recovering from the knee op I can manage to practice on the driving range and the results so far are unbelievable. I was so inconsistent off the tee and with most clubs prior to the 'pps', but now can hit shot after shot with my driver and the ball sails straight down the middle and the more I practice my timing improves and the ball sails further each time. Your teachings are correct and with time and perseverance anyone should be able to strike the ball better and really start to enjoy the fruits of their labour. I cannot wait to play my first round of golf next Friday in order to champion your fabulous work. ' keep it vertical ' is definitely the way forward. Many, many thanks Surge ÃÂ yours Mick Cox from Leighton Buzzard , Bedfordshire, England

Thank you for this very interesting info. This may help a lot of us duffers out there. I never did see that video you're referring to but it would be fun to see. My remarks about the tee height work for me because I don't use varying spine tilts and I tee up the driver with the same tee height. The game is hard enough without putting in another factor. I try to simplify as best I can. I'm of the mantra "keep it simple stupid" (kiss). As far as spine tilt for the driver, at address I simply stand erect and then lift my heel off the ground and this sets my spine tilt. I keep that tilt and of course put my heel back down on the ground. I do this for all shots, irons and woods, and it gives me the same spine tilt over and over again. This sameness is accomplished because the shorter the irons the farther back in my stance they are positioned. Also, I found that by having a constant tilt it gives me the added confidence to really go after the ball. Thanks again for the article to which you're referring and taking the time to write. Have a good holiday buddy.

Gil:ÃÂ Early last summer
Gil:ÃÂ Early last summer the surge did aÃÂ video demonstration where he teed up 16 balls in a straight line, every ball at a different tee height, then proceeded to go down the line and "call out each shot" (high, low, very high, very low).ÃÂ He then hit each ball exactly as he said he would, without any regard or concern for tee height.ÃÂ When he finished, he asked the camera crew how they thought he did it.ÃÂ They were baffled.ÃÂ ÃÂ He then explained it was simplyÃÂ the amount of spine "secondary tilt" that he preset for each shot.ÃÂ If he wanted the ball to go higher, he secondary-tilted or "leaned" his spine a little more toward his REAR foot.ÃÂ If he wanted it to go lower, heÃÂ kept his spine more centered between his feet.ÃÂ It was amazing to see him do it!ÃÂ That is what I've been personally doing and teaching my students to also do.ÃÂ I don't worry about tee height at all, but just set my spine for the height of shot I need to make.ÃÂ Works great in a strong head wind.ÃÂ I just eliminate any reverse tilt, keep my spine centered over the center of my stance, and hit low rockets.ÃÂ ÃÂ Saves me a lot of time and I don't worry about tee height anymore.ÃÂ Just another idea to consider.ÃÂ Hit 'em straight!ÃÂ R2

Steve,
I agree that in the course of a round you need to make adjustments for just what the heck is going on with your swing that day. I think, though, that Keith is still new enough to the game that he's trying to find the comfortable baseline that you and I worked out a while back.
I do something similar to what you're saying, but it doesn't change the position of my hands at address in any way, I just rotate the club in my hands a couple degrees more open or closed depending on the needs of the situation and how I'm hitting the ball that day. I try to do everything I can to make sure that--outside of special situations like punching a ball or needing a 30 yard hook around a tree--all of the elements of my swing aside from the club are as much the same as possible every time.

ÃÂ ÃÂ Irons also -- aobut the only time I hit too high on the club face is if I tee the ball a little to high on a short par 3 -- and then make contact with the center of the club face (or higher). Produces a high weak shot -- can you say"How to turn an 8 iron into a PW" ? NOT funny!

Hey Kevin,Don't thank me yet
Hey Kevin,
Don't thank me yet (at least until you try it). LOL
It is still an experiment for me but so far one thing is undeniable. I hit my ball much higher and with an obvious increase in ball speed today doing it that way.
I did have to strengthen my grip a little to keep from hitting a block to the right (which I did twice today). Then I did something I'm notorious for doing. I took a good thing, strengthening the grip just a little, and figured if that worked that well I would strengthen it even more. Bad move. LOL Hit a hook.
I think, even though the swing is much better, the shaft is still causing me a few problems and with the correct one I might not even have to strengthen the grip at all.
It felt good to really rip some drives though. Longest one today 347 yards. I don't know for sure what the swing looks like since I still don't have my camera back but I think it probably looks pretty good.

I have no problems with the videos. Instant on. I do use Firefox on a Mac platform with 4 gigs of ram. If you are using Windows try the Firefox program and see how it works. There could be something in the settings in your browser program, virus ware and/or the operating system.
If these things don't change, look to the speed of your internet connection and also if they have virus ware that is slowing down the video download.

If the Tech Crew is unable to retrieve the videos from the previous Utube account through some arrangement. What say ye Tech Crew, is it possible to work that out somehow, if you did in fact have access to all of the videos from Dick H.
Here is the Drop Box link and info. It's a free download, for a limited amount of Bytes per transfer.

I had a spell at the range
I had a spell at the range last week where I hit a few shots one after the other off the top of the driver popping the ball high in the air! Very embarrassing indeed. The orange rubber driver tee is too high at the range i am sure, coupled with I think coming down too steep caused this. At the time I was trying to lift more over the toeline trying to get more vertical and guess when I got to the top didn't drop the club inside and instead hit straight toward the ball.
Thanks Surge!ÃÂ ÃÂ
