The Surge and Derek Hardy finished off the final day of the Swing Surgeon golf school at Golden Bear Training Center in Carrollton, Texas with a discussion on how much the students improved. They joked about having to take away the range ball bucket from two students in the final hour because they wouldn't have stopped, they were hitting the ball so well. After three intense days of instruction they were still filled with energy and pain free. Their ages? 74 and 76.
Both Don and Derek agreed that the biggest problem every student faced was excess body movement like folding the left knee in which, in turn, made them drop their shoulders. Don brought up his 'Body Movement Meter Test.' He asked students to think of a meter and, on a scale of 1-9 (9 standing for a great deal of movement), where they were before the school and after the school. The results were dramatic. The Surge Swing's signature 'wide knees' in the setup and throughout the backswing keeps the lower body still. And since there's no big rotational turn, even the upper body has less movement. The students said their movement was cut in half thanks to what they learned.

ÃÂ Hey T,
You are just a couple of golden streets over from me.
The funny thing was when I was getting my mansion assigned to me I happened to be in line behind Hank Haney.ÃÂ St. Peter was going to drop him off at his mansion before taking me to mine.
His was a really nice place with a big flag flying above it that had Hank Haney golf instruction on it. There was a nice little driving range beside the house.
Just up the hill from there was a huge and glorious mansion that made Haney's place look small. There was a golden driveway leading up the hill to it with diamonds the size of baseballs lining the edge of the driveway. All around the mansion was a golf course that made Augusta National look plain. It also had a flag pole with a huge flag flapping in the breeze. On the flag was written Swing Surgeon Golf.
Haney kept looking up at the big mansion and finally said to St. Peter "I just don't think it's fair that I get this little place and, even though it's nice, Surge gets that huge, glorious mansion surrounded by that glorious golf course.
St. Peter looked up toward the great mansion and laughed and said "That's not Surge's place. That's God's place".ÃÂ
Edit: Hey T.
I can't take any credit for the composition of this joke. It was circulating as an Alabama/Auburn joke and I heard it about 45 years ago and I just changed some names to make it fit.
Here is an interesting tip
Here is an interesting tip for not dropping the foreward shoulder. Make sure the back one pulls the arms and club back away from the aim line. I hit really poor shots if the fore ward shoulder moves too vertically and not perpendicular to the spinal angle. It also helps the back hip clear a bit to let the club swing into the proper place.

ÃÂ Box some up and sent it C.O.D. to me. It is fairly sunny today though and going up to 80*, I hope we have the same for golf tomorrow. I want to get my Swing Tech trainer mounted and tested some time today. I have to decide where to mount/use it at. I am thinking indoors would be the best all around choice, it never rains there. Fortunately, there is no one to tell me, You don't think you're putting that thing up there do you? So, it will have to be somewhere within TV viewing. LOL
Thanks for the compliment.

ÃÂ I have a very preliminary
ÃÂ I have a very preliminary observation about golf balls that surprises me.
I started playing with a KZG 355 a few weeks ago as an experiment. I play with many different brands of golf balls but the Pro V1 has always been my favorite because I liked it around the green and I thought it was a little longer off of the tee.
So far with this driver there is even a more noticeable difference in distance between the Pro V1 and other brands that I try than there used to be with my old driver.
It may be that I have more club speed with this driver, making it a better match, or it may be just a big coincidence that they are going that much longer. Of course I haven't had time to hit all of the brands and models but I have hit many of them and in that time none of the other balls would be in the top ten long drives that I have hit (and I have hit those various brands more often than Pro V1s).
I didn't watch any of the
I didn't watch any of the golf tournament today and just clicked on the scoreboard to see what was happening.
Man! Somebody has unleashed David Toms haven't they? Could have won last week and then comes back with a fury. I guess I need to record the tournament tomorrow so I can see what it is that has turned him around.
Surge,
Surge,
Excellent discussion! It goes directly to the main problems of my swing. I get the excessive movement and dropping of the left shoulder more often than I like to admit. That is the root cause of 95% of my bad shots. Thanks for the reminders.

ÃÂ Have you videoed your swing from down-the-line to see what's actually happening in the swing (as opposed to what you think might be happening)? It sounds like you need to work on keeping your right wrist firm in the back swing, but you may also be getting over-active with your wrists overall. Also check that you're actually lining the club up square to start with if you're consistently putting right-to-left spin on the ball.

I've been playing the "easy distance" mostly. Looks like my weather may break tomorrow so I plan to try the e5. They are pretty much equal for me.
I have a father's day scramble coming up June 17th so I need to decide on one or the other. Of course tomorrow may not be a fair test with a 10 day weather layoff. Sorry, had to throw that excise in there.

That gives me plenty of time to get in at least 36 holes tomorrow. Nice of them to schedule it late enough to not mess up my Saturday game. It would be a shame if I was on the verge of winning when I got whisked away.

Keep it going pal, you will get there.
I have done a lot of firearms training in my life.ÃÂ Sometimes it seems to be easier for me to teach someone who has never fired a gun before to shoot.ÃÂ All I have to do is teach them the right way to do something.ÃÂ I don't have to break their bad habits first.
Being a recovering rotational swing-a-holic I can tell you how hard it is sometimes not to slip back into my old swing.ÃÂ My back and shoulders tell me immediately if I try to do that.ÃÂ They don't like it at all.
It will work if you work at it.

Now all I have to do is practice it til it becomes ingrained.ÃÂ The daily reminders sure do help.

Hey Ed,Just my thoughts
Hey Ed,
Just my thoughts because I haven't seen your swing but I would think it is probably not so much that the wrists are overly loose but either the shaft, your left arm, or the left wrist is out of position at the top.
Try standing without a club like you are in an address position. Then turn your shoulders to the right and extend your left arm in a straight line right on the toe line. From there make sure your left palm is perpendicular to the ground as if you were going to do a Karate chop straight down on and imaginary board barely outside or even on the toe line. From there just let the arm fall straight towards the toe line.
From that position at the top with your left arm and left wrist and letting it come straight back down the club doesn't have much choice but to follow.
If the arm doesn't come straight back down at the start of the FUS it will throw the arm and the shaft onto different planes. Also if the shaft was not in a position to take a ride on the Ferris Wheel it will also get out of position.
Think of the Ferris Wheel as being on the toe line or just barely inside of it. The left arm needs to be the spoke of the Ferris Wheel so it has to get in that position. The shaft, including the club head, has to also be inside the Ferris Wheel so when the wheel starts down it just follows along.
Maybe some of those thoughts will help or maybe you won't know what the heck I'm talking about but those are the thoughts I use, both for maximum power and efficiency.
That's a great way to put it
That's a great way to put it.ÃÂ I'll run that by him to see if we can teach that old dog a new trick.
