Meet The Swing Surgeon Team

Wed, 03/30/2011 - 18:32 -- Don Trahan

This week, I'm coming to you from Orlando, Florida. My team and I are conducting a Swing Surgeon golf school at Orange County National Golf Club.

This is a really great group of guys, and each will be providing the students with valuable tips and tools to help them shoot those lower scores. My head instructor, Greg Macdonell has been with me since 1987, so he knows all about the Surge Swing. Bruce Chaffin is "The Rolfer Golfer," and he's got some really interesting insight on how to help with those body aches. Jack Moore is our resident guru putter. You all may recognize Jack from our latest video, Putting Secrets of America's Greatest Putter. Last, but certainly not least, is the Swing Surgeon's newest certified instructor, Dave Seeman.

From all of us here in sunny Florida...keep it vertical!

The Surge!

Hi Surge,
I have been using your swing for almost a year and the results are wonderful. I am trying to increase my distance and I can't figure out where my hip turn enters into the formula. My question is do the hips turn to begin the downswing or do the arms pull the hips through the swing.
Please Help

Gary,

Old news, and the two swing systems are not the same. My advice is to stick with this one.

Good luck

I am posting a world wide Food Network emergency.

My wife just brought my desert out to me on the patio. She informed me that we are now out of pound cake, strawberries, and cool whip.

I can't live like this. I need someone to "talk me down", or I might jump off my patio wall. That won't help me. I live on the ground floor. I might have to go break into the place up on the third floor and jump off their patio.

Don't let me down here folks,
Dick

Thanks Robert, I've been watching the Ladies at the Kraft Nabisco on the Golf channel. It's their first Major. I'll check out pga.com now.

Whatever it was they were pretty animated about it. LOL

Doc said a "good" husband would do the same. Haha

Are you kidding me? I know exactly how spoiled I am. And, yes I do appreciate it. I found the right one, this time. Haha. As my father used to say, "Even a blind pig will find an acorn from time to time." I found the acorn. In case my wife reads this, I am not calling you a nut honey.

I am truly a blessed man,

I miss his videos too. I wish he would go back to his roots and sing more on the new videos. I like that the new videos are in color.

I really feel bad that you don't get to play as much as you'd like. ;0) Nice to see the new driver working so well. Told my son-in-law, who loves my burner, it's all his when I get my new one from Doc. He's all hyped about it. He hit it a ton at the range so I may be sealing my own doom...lol.

OK...gory details to follow on my round today. First hole par 3, tee shot to 18 in, birdie. OK, today is gonna be special. Two and three, par 3 and par 4, one under after 3. Pulled my tee shot ont the next par 3 pretty bad and thought ok now the wheels come off. Made a good chip from behind a tree to 10 ft and missed the putt. Long par 3 next, hit the green and then the dreaded 3 putt. Finished the front 9 2 over, so not bad.

Back 9: birdie, par, par, par. Long par 3 that I never hit the green on is next and I hit my 5 wd to about 20 feet. Now I'm really getting nervous. So what does dummy do?...3 putt. Finished bogey, bogey, double, and bogey. Seven over for the round, so best I've shot this year, but disappointed I let it get away..Golf can sure be a greedy game...lol.

Difference for me today was getting a handle on the tempo issue I had yesterday. I let the club fall from the top of my backswing where yesterday I was forcing it. The distance was better and a much more fluid swing. Still having a problem timing the bump, but it's getting better.

Oh yeah, Dick, I celebrated by finishing the brownies tonight.

That's very sweet. It's guys like you that make me think marriage is a pretty good concept. It's just a matter of finding the acorn. In my case, I'm finding a lot of blind pigs! Haha. Seriously, you're very lucky. Finding the person is one thing; knowing that you've found the person is another. If that makes any sense. ???

I know you are sleeping by now. I am getting ready to go do the same thing.

What would you get if you mix Larry the Cableguy and that short fat county woman from the Food Network? A great cook who is uglier than hell.

Glad we are keeping up your spirits. That is what we do.

If you'll buy me a super save ticket on AA, put me up at a Holiday Inn, and rent me a cheap sub compact, and buy me dinner at Mickey Ds, we have a deal! Oh, wait, is there any kind of bet that we could wager?

You are so right. I was just too hard headed to quit trying until I got it right. I can be a slow learner.

Remember, pigs are not frogs. It won't help to try kissing them on the forehead. Hang in there, you will find your prince in God's timing.

It makes perfect sense. It should scare you when something you say makes sense to me.

I found THE ONE, and I am smart enough to know it. Kelly Jo fits me. Better than that, she completes me. And, to top it off, I got an extra son, daughter in law, daughter, son in law, and three more grandkids who think Pop Pop walks on water out of the deal. Along with the package came a wonderful mother in law and dad, who has become my golfing partner and a great friend.

Now you know why I always say I am a blessed man.

Hello Bruce. Nice to hear from a fellow buckeye. We are a bit apart. I am in the Canton area which i believe is about 1 1/2hrs from Youngstown. Perhaps some future time we could find a decent half way between us course. During season though i golf on four leagues, Mon-Thur, so my Fri, Sat, and Sun are usually my other jobs days, lawn, house, errands, etc. Never the less, we may be able to work something out. I failed to take advantage of the few good days we've already had, due to some hand ailments and other responsibilites, but now, i wish i had. It's pretty ugly looking weather for the near future in my area. I hope we can get out on Monday, but it doesn't look to good right now. Let me know if i can help you in the swing changes and transition. I only started with it mid to 3/4 way through last season, so i'm far from good with it yet, but i'm learning. Or perhaps, i should say, my body is learning to cooperate. Knowing how to do it, and actually being able to do it, can seem like worlds apart at times. Waiting on and hoping to get new Fitted clubs this year also, from our cirtified fitter in Columbus. We are into the process at present. Waiting on the weather to improve for that as well. If you know how to edit, you might want to remove your phone number from the public posting, unless you're not concerned with cranks. I have it copied. Cheers

They just did not want to bring out all the big guns for this class. Can't have all you guys in one place at the same time, in case something happens. You know they do that at the fed level. They keep them spread out so there is always someone left to run the show if a disaster happens.

I know, I need to learn to come out of my shell. My wife loves the fact that she never has to try and guess what is on my mind. The mental picture killed my appetite too. For about 5 minutes then I made a full recovery. I have great news for the Surge Nation. My loving wife restocked the entire desert supply tonight on her way home, while I was at the range. I keep telling you I am one blessed man.

He learned some great one liners. I told him I am doing a golf video. He said he would like to see it when it is finished. He asked what I am doing it on. I told him the working title is "Don't let this happen to your game." There were a couple of times when he was just about to make a swing and he would just walk away from his ball laughing himself silly. He told me I could not tell anymore jokes while we played because it was killing his game. He did have one great line at my expense on one hole. It is a hard dog leg right. He went first and hit right over the trees of the dog leg and landed right out in the middle of the fairway in front of the green on his tee shot on a par 4. I knew better than to try that. I was chuckling to myself as I hit my shot. It went almost to the turn and then sliced right off down the hill into the heavy brush. He has a very dry sense of humor. He watched my ball go out of sight into the brush, turned to me and said "We don't mow down in there Dick."

He enjoyed our round together enough that he told the guy who runs the vol program at the course to find a position for me. I guess I owe him for all the range ball I can hit and all the golf I can play for free. I must have left a mark on him somehow. Every time he sees me anywhere around the course or clubhouse, he always takes the time to walk over and talk for a couple of minutes. He is very down to earth.

I have had all I can take of you people for one night. I am going to bed

Have a great day, talk to you soon.

April fools day tomorrow and my 69th birthday. My buddy talked me into buying a preferred players card for discounts on 5 course here in Charlotte. We used it once before he came out of retirement and went back to work driving a truck. He used to drive for Joe Gibbs. I get a free round of golf on my BD, but since I have no license or car and all my friends are dead or too old to move and he went back to work, I think I will use this chop saw I bought to cut shafts and put it to work cutting the heads off all the crap I have laying around here until the blade wears out. I need to get golf out of my head since I am unable to play. Yeah, I tricked my Mom God rest her soul. She was 5 months pregnant with me on Pearl Harbor day.

I just got word that FishHook in Palmer will be open this weekend. I might get to play a round on a real golf course for a change. The only bad part is that I will have to carry a four pound hammer in my bag to drive me tee into the ground.

By the way, check this out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I'll let everybody know how I play in my first frozen round of the year.

I rather think my husband is a blessed man too (and I'm a blessed woman of course)! Tonight, I'm making salt-encrusted branzino (mediterranean sea bass). YUMMY! And speaking of dessert...I had the most amazing blueberry white chocolate bread pudding at dinner last night! Wish I could take credit for that, but alas we were out to dinner.

Hello all

Just got in and shared a wonderful diner with my wife. That gal can cook. I offer exhibit # 1 to prove that. Exhibit 1 is my waist line. I object your honor. Over ruled, shut up and go eat your desert.

Nothing to worry about folks, the argument is over.

Hope everyone had a great day. It was a bit cool here today, but not enough to keep me from playing. I can't fool around now, dad and I are playing Friday. We are meeting in the middle of main street at 10:30 AM for the show down. I don't think he knows what is coming his way. I worked at the course on Sunday after church, then played 18. Played 18 on Monday. Had to work all day on Tuesday, no golf. Hated it. I had a home inspection this morning then played 18. Tomorrow I am changing it up. I am playing 18 in the morning, then doing an inspection in the afternoon. Then 18 on Friday with dad. Going to my other range on Saturday. Working at the course on Sunday after church. Hope they let me off in time to play at least 9 before I head home at dark. What a life. If I am dreaming, leave me alone. I will have to bust a cap on anyone who pinches me and wakes me up.

I had a great game today. The new driver is working real well. I was banging it with the 3 wood today. I was on the green in 2 after nice 3w shots on 4 par fours and in 3 on 2 of the par fives. I took a page out our pal Steve's book today. I did not even keep score. I just worked on shots and shot from different places to the greens. I took 4 hours to do 18, with all the extra shots and ball hawking. I had a great time.

It is great to hear that our brothers who have been on sick call are doing better. I can tell Robert is just about ready to sneak in a game.

For those of you who are still snowed in, if you send me your address, I will send you a box of what we have coming this weekend. They are saying it might get up to 92 Sunday. If it does, the guys and gals will come out of the woodwork to play. The course will be hopping when I am working.

I know I am not the only one who played today. How did your games go today? Somewhere one of us is playing right now.

The sun never sets on the Surge Nation.

Tmedley, the burner iron I got as a gift/prize was a curse because I hit it so good at the range and it is so nice looking. I have a practice 8 iron I built and keep outside and my stepdad said the burner looked so good mine looked like something you would stir a fire with. Granted mine looks bad but I have some sponge balls I hit off the asphalt in the road often to get used to hard pan that will be coming soon in this barren terrain and the sole is pretty beat up. I am still wrapping my head around what I need to do and go Hybrid not Hi-bread like we used to talk about and get 3-9 with graphite.
