All right. Golf pros seem to have an abundance of clubs. It comes with the territory. Yesterday I suggested a higher lofted driver for wet and cold conditions. Well, a few of my friends suggested not everyone would want to run out and spend a few hundred bucks on another driver. O.K. Understood. The alternative?
Your 3 wood! I think everyone has a 'favorite club' in his or her bag. Mine happens to be my 3 wood. I consider it my gold standard. All my other clubs must match its performance. Your 3 wood will also give you the air time I talked about yesterday.
So you don't need to go out and buy another driver if that's not an option. You already have the club you'll need in your bag.

Leave the driver home! This
Leave the driver home! This is not television golf. I hit the 3 wood straighter and with less effort into the fairway 8 times out of 10. The driver, I hit in the fairway only 5 or 6 out of ten and it's only 20 yards longer.
So I have to club up for my second shot? So what? Who can't hit a 6 iron as good as their 7 or 8 iron.
When I stopped using my driver, I eliminated most, if not all penalty shots and started consistently shooting in the high 80's on ANY course. I think there may be a play from the golf club industry to sell drivers. Look at some of the new ones.
They look like clown clubs...or a shoebox at the end of a shaft.
Try the Cleveland Launcher, Taylormade Burner 2.0 or for tight fairways, even a Mashie 15 degree loft hybrid off the tee. You will be there before the big drives and the other boys will wonder what happened.
