Today, I'm going to share a recent conversation I had with a very talented professional who uses the PPGS. It had to do with ball flight and whether or not the PPGS gives you any advantage or disadvantage when it comes to length.
Golfers who use the Peak Performance Golf Swing tend to have a higher ball flight. This is because we are one of the only swings that allows golfers to remain behind the ball at impact. However, hitting the ball high should not be construed as negative.
There is nothing wrong with hitting the ball high as long as it holds its line. If the ball has a straight flight, it's going to cut through the air as well as a low punch shot can.
Watch today's video and you'll understand why low ball flight doesn't necessarily mean more distance.
Keep it vertical!

High and low
I generally hit the ball higher too with the PPGS. I love the high ball flight under normal circumstances, especially with all irons. As far as drivers I go back and forth between 9-10.5 degrees loft. Mid-summer when the ball flies a mile in the hot, dry desert air I often use the 9 degree. If it's going on the correct line it will hit and roll a long ways. Again if that's if it's on the correct starting direction and not curving in an unhappy direction:) I also hit up on my drives (unless into the wind) so even with 9 degrees it's launching at 14-16 anyway. Before I tweaked my back a few months back my longest drives were really high piercing draws. As Don says the air gives less resistance than the ground.
Again in the summer here when the fairways are hard and fast the ball does roll a long ways so low works then too only less predictably. Because we do play in some very windy conditions at times here, learning to flight the ball lower comes in handy rather often. Ironically I have some of my best golf days when there is at least a 15-20mph breeze. I think it forces me to pay attention more and focus better. As for hitting it high or low nothing helped me more than the "working the ball" videos Surge produced. Worth every penny.
How about that wing at Doral yesterday? 113 balls in the water, crazy stuff and lots of really ticked off players. Tiger put himself back into contention today. Let's see if he can finish strong Sunday.
High Low
It is my understanding of physics that optimum trajectory and distance is acheived when a projecticle is launched at an angle of 45 degrees (under ideal conditions). Anything higher/lower than 45 degrees results in less distance. Isn't this true for a golf ball as well?
High Low
No.
High Low
Personally when its dry out I like hitting a trajectory that goes up and flattens out and comes down the same way it went up so it hits and runs I tee it a little lower and I guess you could say medium high flight. When it is wet I tee it higher and try to get as much carry as possible knowing that I will not get the roll.
Swing speed
I'm an older guy and not as strong as I once was. I seek distance. Is the ppgs a good way to go, rather than something more rotational? Ppgs seems to get all it's speed from arms only. Couldn't other parts of body be helpful? (Why pop tart? The ball is gone.). Trail arm swings seem powerful also?
Thanks
Jacques
Swing speed
Hi Jacques
You will find that , by far, the biggest number of followers of the PPGS, are older guys & gals. The main reason for this is being able to play pain free, enjoyable golf for years to come. However being an older guy & seeking more distance, is always going to be a challenge, no matter what swing method you use. I would recommend, if possible, a visit to a PPGS certified fitter, who would be able to match a club head & shaft to suit your swing dynamics & most likely give you a bit more distance. The PPGS is not just an arms swing, as we still need to make a 70* turn, & as with any throwing or hitting motion, our body needs to be fully engaged. The reason for the pop tart is to make us swing up, rather than hitting down . Good luck with your game
