Ball Position - Woods To Irons

Tue, 03/13/2012 - 20:31 -- Don Trahan

With the Peak Performance Golf Swing, hitting a driver uses the same swing as hitting an iron. However, there are setup changes that are made, including ball position.

Many golfers think that they must possess two different swings to become a better golfer. One swing for the driver and one for the irons. One Surgite even said that he began hitting his driver really well but his irons suffered because his "driver swing" was creeping into his iron play. My suggestion is to find the vertical swing that you can repeat consistently and forget about having two swings. The PPGS allows you to hit any club in the bag with optimal results. Just by changing the ball position, the impact position is altered so that each club in the bag is struck at the proper angle. Naturally, as you switch clubs there are other variables to the setup such as your distance away from the ball and shaft angle. But, the swing stays the same! If you're a golfer who changes your swing based on the club in your hand, give this a try and you will add more consistency to your game.

Keep it vertical,

The Surge!

Epiroska,

I can relate to your disaster.  I bought the videos and foundation manual and tried as best I could to implement Surge's method and thought I was getting close.

I decided to have Doc build a driver through a long distance fitting.  That process includes making a video of my driver swing face on and down the line.  Talk about SCARY!!  What I was doing compared to what  I THOUGHT I was doing was not even close.

I was the poster boy for collapsed left knee, bent left arm and SBG all wrapped up in one.  When I sent it to Doc I figured he take one look, fall on the floor laughing and try to find a way to gently tell me I was a lost cause. ;0))

He took what I had and built the best driver I've ever owned.  It has been about 2 years now for me working to improve my game with Surge's swing and I'm always going to be a work in progress, but the game is a lot more fun.

Hang in there and never, ever give up !!!

Epiroska,

You will probably get lots of comments, but here is what finally helped me get the hang of the vertical swing. I cleared my head of all the thoughts that I learned. Then, I concentrated on three positions: First, the setup (as Surge says, setup determines the motion); second, the top of the BUS (Back-upswing: I get to the proper position at the top); and third, the T-finish. If I can go from the setup to the proper position at the top of the BUS and then to the T-finish, everything in between will be good and the ball will go where I aim it.

Only if the ball does not go where I aimed do I concern myself with all the other points, like the mitts (front and back).

I have checked the impact points and intentionally hit it both high and low on the face and it makes very little difference where it hits...Still low shots.

I haven't tried making "easy" swings but then I don't really think I am swinging that fast to begin with. I would guess that I am swinging fast enough for the ball to go around 280 if it had the correct height but as it is they only go around 250 at Lil Mole where there is almost no roll. I could maybe see a problem if I was really trying to kill the ball. ???
It's a weird thing, and that's the only driver I ever hit that does that.
I've even hit 6* drivers that went plenty high.

Let me know if you find one from someone other than me.  As far as I know, I'm pretty much the only one with a sub 380cc head.

why do you say that the club should be vertical at the top of the backswing when you have it at 45 degrees to the ground at the top of your backswing. do you not look at your own swing,

Have a good time. Be sure not to put too much pressure on that wrist. You want to be playing for a long time to come.

Maybe your angle of attack is to flat with the driver. I had that issue at the begining of the year last year getting 8* out of a 9.5* driver.
I tried different shafts to get the ball higher off the ground a A flex shaft helped some but I could only swing it at about 10 %. It boiled down to a posture / swing issue I need to get my head more behind the ball at adress with driver and keep it there so it would swing up at impact. Another words I was covering the ball to much at impact with the driver which was allowing it to swing flatter through the ball at impact and start up after impact. Dont know if this makes sense or will help but I said it anyway.

You are probably right. So far, there is no one else and none of the "fitters" around here have any. I guess I will be contacting you as soon as I get the funds together.
