As I introduced last week, our Director of Club Fitting Operations, Doc Griffin, will be taking you step by step through the process of club fitting in a series of short videos. The first video was just an introduction into the topic of club fitting and why we believe it's so important to becoming a better golfer. Well, today Doc is going to explain the first step in his process.
Doc always starts a club fitting session by measuring the length from your wrist to the floor. This will determine the proper shaft length that you will need on your clubs. Some people think that how tall you are is a determining factor of how long your clubs should be. Doc explains that this is a common misconception. Instead, all adjustments he makes comes after he measures your WTF (wrist-to-floor) first. For example, I have extremely long arms for my height so if my shaft length was based on how tall I am, the clubs would probably end up being way too long by that measurement. So don't make the mistake of thinking your height has anything to do with a proper club fitting because it doesn't!
Check back in the upcoming weeks as Doc continues to break down all the components of his world class club fitting process.
Keep it vertical and remember that better golf is just a fit away,

I just thought with it being Valentine's Day, that a little pep talk in that area might be in line for the Surge Nation.ÃÂ I even thought about suggesting having an extension installed, like we do on golf clubs, but decided to cut the answer short, so to speak.
I find that so much of life can be looked at just like golf.ÃÂ Like Surge's line about on-on-and on.ÃÂ Lots of things work best if you are able to go on-on-and on and especially if you are accelerating at the point of impact.ÃÂ

Of course no one wants to
Of course no one wants to have a putt go "flying by" the hole.
That would just be stupid.
There are odds on each putt what the danger is of running past so far as to miss the come back.
On a fast downhill putt that drops off past the hole the odds would be to play it very safe. On most putts the odds would be to play whatever is comfortable to make sure it:
1. Gets there.
2. Stays within easy range for the come back.
Those odds change from player to player and day to day for the same player. They also change from course to course depending on the greens.
Anyone that doesn't approach each putt with those odds in mind is costing themselves strokes.
"The perfect miss' is anything that gets to the hole and doesn't go far enough past to risk a 3 putt.
The dumbest miss is the putt that comes up an inch short and dead center just because somebody was afraid of a 1 foot come back putt.
I don't mind missing a putt for a lot of different reasons but that "lot" doesn't include being scared on putts with nothing to fear.

Probably a couple of hours from Pelham, almost that far from Pell City. My dad was born and raised in Pell City and I spent a lot of time with my cousins there when I was a kid but I've only been there once (to a football game) in the last 35 years.
Pelham is on the southwest side of Birmingham.
Edit: For me to go to town or to a store 4 of the stars have to be perfectly aligned. LOL
That day I went to the golf shop in Tuscaloosa I:
1. Had some money in my pocket.
2. Had some time on my hands.
3. Knew the weather was too bad to play golf.
4. Was already in town.
Those stars may never line up again.
Stockton teaches that speed
Stockton teaches that speed and pace are the most important thing and I agree. This does not discount line importance but I have missd more putts because of misjudgement on speed/pace than anything else. Normally it is because of sliding by 5 or 6 feet and missing the come backer. But nothing stinks more than short! Last week I had a par 3 green in regulation and was 35 feet from the hole. A bit down hill and right to left. Had lots of time (maybe too much time) as the group in front was so slow and still teeing off. So I took careful preparation and had the line just so. Left that sucker 10 feet short and three putted!! Id' rather have a 4 foot putt coming back than to be short any day. As you say, 99.99% of all shots that are short do not go in!! My goal is along the 18 inches past way of thinking. Going to be working diligently on my putting this and every week this season. I have a ton of great drills now. Just need to do it:)

Maybe Coach has a point.ÃÂ It could be that some of the old rotational swingers back in the day were digging such deep divots that they dug up some bodies and got scared and closed the course.
I love history and that is a cool story.ÃÂ I hope you can find the tee box and then try to figure out how the course went.

The indoor range was the type
The indoor range was the type that had golf courses projected on a screen which you could play from a mat in front of the screen.ÃÂ The system they had gave about 15 different results of the swing, distance, angle of swing, direction of ball and club head speed was one of the data pieces.
Also, it seems I swing the driver about 5 to 8 mph faster than the 7ÃÂ and 9 irons.
Bill
You would have a better
You would have a better chance of getting away with a driver longer than the chart suggests with a flatter swing than a vertical swing and still get decent results.
That said, even with a flat swing most people would have much better control if they weren't using a driver longer than the chart suggests.
Heck most amateurs are trying to hit a club longer, and harder to handle, than most of the PGA Tour guys are using. If anything that should be the other way around.

Greeting from the great white plains of Oklahoma.ÃÂ I remember a chat we had on a this blog probably a year ago.ÃÂ We were talking about what our favorite balls were.ÃÂ I said I just play what ever ball the guy in front of me lost.ÃÂ Doc cut right to the chase and asked me if it is important to have the right club properly fitted to me and I only use each stick a certain number of times in a round, how much more important to have the only piece of equipment that is involved in EVERY shot properly fitted to me.ÃÂ I had several play offs between all the different types of balls I had in my bag.ÃÂ I got a lot of suggestions from the folks on the blog.ÃÂ I found at the time that the gammer v2 worked best for me then.ÃÂ As my swing and game have evolved, I am now in Steve's camp and only play the prov1.ÃÂ No, I don't pay $45 a dozen for them.ÃÂ They are so popular I always find way more than I lose.
I would suggest that you do your own tests to find what works best for you.ÃÂ You will find that different balls perform differently under changing playing conditions.ÃÂ For instance, when it is cold, I keep my balls in my pants pocket so they get warm.ÃÂ
I don't know about you, but I always do my best work when I warm up my balls,
Dick
Yesterday decided to practice
Yesterday decided to practice, rather than play. The day before I had 10 holes and a practice.ÃÂ I had lost just about everything of the swing : - (ÃÂ Couldn't seem to get it going, as it were. Hence the decision to practice. Arrived at the practice ground, to find I had forgotten my BALLS!Had but two, a Srixon AD333 and a Bridgestone e6! Started with the club that I had used at the practice the day before, the 9iron. This club was my saviour. Started by warming up, then hit both balls towards the green, skipping the rock. Both balls on the green 90yds away [big slope back to front].
My wife found several balls in the rough etc, she had a Srixon 'soft feel' in her pocket, which she surrendered to me. Began to swing quite well.Nice rythm and speed. Results exceeding my expectations. Repeated the process with every iron in the bag, good BUS good FUS. Back down to the 9iron again, using the balls mentioned above and adding the ones found by my wife. They varied from Titleist ProV1's, Callaway, a Titleist DT Roll [logo and Raptor Bay Golf Club on it], Titleist 90 wound, Pinnacle, Signature, etc. Hit my 'softer' ones first on the green in good position to the flag. The rest were inconsistent,ie, long or shorter. Most disturbing of all to me, was most of them fealt as though I was hitting a brick!!! Sounded awful and fealt awful too,ie, my shoulders fealt the difference!
When I retreived the balls, my 'softies' were within 5' of the pin.The others all over the place. The reason I only use balls I play with for practice normally. This confirmed my reasons for doing so, as being wise.
Now to the topic of the day. The hotch potch of balls were used on my woods, 24deg, 5W,3W and r7,in the reverse order. Results with the driver as already in answers to Robert F. Had it set up for Lower Neutral, it went long and straight, "Gasps steps back in amazement!" The first time I have hit straight drives consistently EVER with it! The 3W a very slight fade on one shot only. The 5W straight as an arrow, and the 24deg long and straight.
The tips on lie angle and length have confirmed to me, that it is the 'arrows not the indian' which are causing me grief. So fitting is now my goal no matter how distant it seems at present.
The question I would like to have addressed, perhaps sometime in the future, is BALLS! [not the epithet]ÃÂ Like the long driving claims by leading brands of clubs and balls, it is sure as heck not a case of one size fits all. I can still remember using Prov1's a long time ago, how stupid was that?
So like the man said: Improvement is only a fit away. Could that same method be used on balls?
From a grey day in Wellington NZ PMGAS from a happier DH.....further on my journey than before.

I like the tour balls from most of the leading companies just fine.
Bridgestone, Calloway, Srixon, and Tailormade all make balls that I don't mind playing.
Like everybody I like to give myself my best chance in rounds I care about but usually when I have a bad round it wasn't the ball's fault no matter which ball it was.
In fact I've played some really great rounds with some really bad golf balls and plenty of really bad rounds with really good golf balls (many of which ended up lost). LOL
Shot a 65 one time with a Cougar that I found in a pond.
Will the club length using
Will the club length using the PPGS swing be the same as for the more horizontal flatter swing?ÃÂ My question is based on what club fitter I should be using - a PPGS certified fitter or a club fitter who is focused on the more horizontal swinger?ÃÂ Or does any of this matter as long it is a fitter who knows what they are doing?ÃÂ Brian S.

I'm going to try to find the
I'm going to try to find the real history of why an airport and a golf course would have been built out here in the woods on the mountain where you had to fly into it to get there and no locals seem to know anything much about it. It's a 2 mile hike to even get there today.
And why they started a bridge across the river that was never completed and the airport and golf course shut down but they don't know why.
All of that work was done by the CCC.
Probably some politician wanted their own private golf course while they were building the state park.
Pretty good history of where I live at this site but no mention of the fly in golf course. Howard's Chapel built around a rock is a few hundred yards from my house. Picture at this link.
