Sometimes when I refer to where my club is, I use a clock as a reference point. 12 o'clock is one position that I mention frequently, because this is where the club should be positioned at the top of your backswing. But remember, this is when the camera is positioned down the line, not face-on. If the camera is positioned face-on, then my club will line up more with 1 o'clock at the top of my backswing (which is a 3/4 backswing). In today's daily, I wanted to talk about the whole takeaway as well as the positions of the clock in relation to camera angle. I've drawn in a clock on the video to really help you visualize what I mean.
Now that you've seen a detailed explanation of the clock's reference points, let's focus on the takeaway. It starts with getting the club into the catcher's mitt, toe up. Only turn as far as your toe line, then it's all lift. I want to stress that even though I've given you checkpoints throughout the takeaway, remember that it must be a smooth, one-piece motion. Each step blends seamlessly into the next for a perfect Surge Swing takeaway and backswing. If you start thinking about each position individually while you're taking the club back, you won't get the best results. Put it all together and make a good swing!
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

Dave Seeman did a great video
Dave Seeman did a great video about this a few months ago in his discussions of the Bump. The feel you're looking for is similar to taking a turn when skiing. For myself, trying to focus on any precise point on my feet would just cause problems, so I think about sliding or rolling the weight from the arch of my back foot to the outer edge of my forward foot.

Your video on the clock-face
Your video on the clock-face as a guide to the position of the club on the backswing was very good, but I felt it missed a very important point that was raised by Mr Crockett. Like him, I have noticed that when you swing facing the camera, your club passes beyond vertical to about 1 o'clock or even a bit further. I accept that from the rear view, the club must be at 12 o'clock. However, I have always been under the impression that the club should also be vertical when viewed from in front. If it is OK to swing a bit past vertical then this should be made clear, as it is quite difficult (and perhaps unnecessary) to limit the backswing to a 12 o'clock position viewed from front on, especially for the longer clubs.ÃÂ

PHIL, for heaven's sake stop shouting! ÃÂ At one time Jack Nicklaus in his heyday lost a tournie when he three putted. ÃÂ He made a vow that he would never three putt again on tour and he sought out the best putter at the time for advice, a man by the name of E. Harvey Ward. ÃÂ Along for the ride was a young bloke by the name of Jack Moore and he has produced a video with Surge to reveal the putting methodology of Mr Ward to the world entitled "Secrets of America's Greatest Putter", this highly recommended video (of which I desperately need to re-study as I'm a totally unco putter) can be found in Surge's shop for a very reasonable price.

Donal, I'd like to second your opinion on the Kenny Knox video.ÃÂ It's a lot of information for a very reasonable price.ÃÂ Kenny is a short game wizard, that has the abilityÃÂ to tell us what he is doing in a very simple and easy to follow way.ÃÂ A bonus is that Kennys' methods are also very compatible with the Surge swing.
Many thanks to Surge , Kenny and Tom Jans for doing this video.

Hey Roger,
I agree with you that you need to keep your width and left arm relatively straight. I don't necessarily think it would take more turn to do it though.

I agree with Robert's post
I agree with Robert's post below.
Along with the too big of a turn there are two points that may be related.
First from down the line you are swinging up and out instead of back and up. Outside the toe line from the get go which causes the club head to swing into the ball from outside the aim line.
Couple with from the face on view you move your head back away from the target and drop it a couple of inches. This means a compensation to move up and forward back to the address position and this causes the pop tart to happen too soon.
Hold the knees like Robert says with half swings will help a lot. Also swinging into a mitt 4 or 5 inches farther inside will help the club head path drop into the proper slot after the bump.
I once got a friend to stop the slice by showing him how to hook. The club head path is radically different and feels so inside as to be swinging 40 yards to the right of the target.
Good luck. It doesn't look like it will be as hard as you think to improve.
Greener pastures? That's what
Greener pastures? That's what we have here in New Zealand Dick. Not bothering to go and play today. Have been out all day shopping and it is Race day near us. Too many nutty drivers on the road after having imbibed more than a wee dram or ten. Rear deck swinging will suffice for the day. Have a bit to do around the place to keep the peace hahahaha. Par for the course. Loved the last few daily videos. Last time I played the light went on. Confirmed by Surge and his short swing = short shots. Today' further confirmation of where I need to go. Have a great weekend and don't eat too much.
Tomorrow is another traditional day to eat Jiaozi [stuffed dumplings]. It may not be a cook out, but it will do ; - )

Hi Robert, I will experiment next time at the range with the grip, I might find the right spot to hitting straighter, who knows it is worth a try. I do feel like I am getting closer though so hopefully it is a matter of time until I get a fluid swing going, I think this is my main problem, I haven't got a swing going yet that I could really call a swing! Yes the club is light at the
Yes the club is light at the top & we need to have that light club to keep us out of the SBG. If surge was to release the club at the top of BUS it would fall sraight down, if we are viewing from BEHIND or DOWN THE LINE.ÃÂ If viewingÃÂ FACE ONÃÂ & top of backswing finishes at one oclock the club would end up falling to maybe 7 oclock. To get the point that Surge is trying to get accross you need to take the FACE ON view out of the picture allÃÂ together
Had a bit of a lights come on
Had a bit of a lights come on moment while contemplating the possible reasons I have had inconsistent results with my wedges in the 100 yard range lately. AsÃÂ I reflected on my best results from the past many had the same thing in common. They came when I had to clear the trees or for some other need had to hit a higher trajectory. The other day on 18, a par five, I hit a really good drive, a super 3 metal to 95 yards. Then from the middle of the fairway bladed my pw and left it 20 yards short of the defenseless green. The pin was up on a second tier that required a high shot. My best short range shots are the bump and runÃÂ type.ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ So here's the plan;ÃÂ
Next time out this week I have decided to picture the image of a tall tree in front of my line to the hole. Having an image of the trajectory desired is what seems to work best for me.
I'll let you know how this goes.

Wel put T. In my case my wife
Wel put T. In my case my wife knows the swing and what it looks like now really well. She can tell me if I'm vertical and 3/4's and more. She honest and straight up in her observations as I have asked her to be. Actually her swing is coming along great. Having someone watch and help that is an advocate for you really helps. I think Keith has a wife who wants him to be happy and succeed so inlisiing her help is wise.
Ken,
Ken,
That very fact has been Repeately made clear, and yet folks like yourself fail to properlyt understand it. That is why we preach and shout, Get The Foundatinon Manual and basic on line Digital Lesson Series. It is impossible to fully understand or use this swing system without the full course materials. We can not bit and pieces our way through the program. For a better understanding of this so Miss-Understood Swing Clock, please read the following link slowly and carefully. Note that pic 3, is the top of the BUS and Not pic 2.

Remember, a pole is vertical in 4 basic directions. Even though it may lean a little, it can still be 100% vertical from a north and south perspective while leaning toward the east or west.

Don,
I just watched the "One piece vertical takeaway" video. I stopped it at the top of your back swing and noticed your club was at 1:00, not 12:00. For me , I get better results when the club is at 1:00 at the top....it gives me a better resistance to hit against. Is this within the vertical swing parameters?

No he is not making a full
No he is not making a full turn. That is probably the most important aspect of this swing and why it is described as "body friendly".
The power is not generated from the coil of a full turn and the unleashing rotation but by the dynamics of the arms swinging in front of the plane of the body.
Surge is probably making about a 70 degree turn (at least that is what we are shooting for so I'm fairly certain his would be close to that number).
If you don't have the swing mechanics down and are still trying to generate your power from the rotation of the body you would lose distance for sure. Once you grasp the concept you will probably hit the ball as far or farther than you did before this swing and with more accuracy.
If at all possible the best start would be to get a lesson from an instructor. Trying to find it on your own can be a slow process unless you are one of the lucky ones and it clicked fairly quickly.
Next best is to get some videos of your swing from down the line (with the camera on the toe line) and face on. You should learn a lot from those videos and if you get stuck you could post them on U-Tube and some of the guys could tell you where you are going wrong.
Surge is working on putting together a program where the certified instructors can study your swings and give you pointers.

What I find frustrating is I
What I find frustrating is I see the swing and it makes complete sense, in my head I know what to do, but in reality I get the same results! Like I fade and slice sometimes and cannot consistently hit straight. I know that getting the club on the toe line on the FUS is key but find difficult to achieve.

DMr. Surge,
Itlooks like you are only turning your shoulders about 1/3 turn while taking the club vertically 3/4 swing. Are you actually making a full turn? I can't make a solid distance shot with such a short shoulder turn.Thanks. I hope your son does well this season.

I made it out to the tournament on Saturday. It was a bummer that I did not get to see D.J. play.
My friend had tickets for the Sky Box between the 11th and 13th greens. After watching a group play the first hole, we caught up to Dustin Johnson and Ricky Fowler's group. We watched them play 5, 6, and 7 before heading over to the Sky Box. The only bad thing in the day was walking back to the car after all of the food that we ate.
Why does this happen time

Thanks for the reply. The swing in my videos is not the swing that I played with all last summer. I am a single digit handicapper some were from October through now everything went hay wire. I agree with Steve below about the shoulder turn not being correct and his suggested fix I should have known this myself but some times I need someone to smack me up beside the head. I will have this straightened out shortly. I hope anyway.ÃÂ

My favourite Timelord was the John Pertwee version, I liked Tom Baker after and Patrick Troughton before Pertwee, but I fell away after the fourth Doctor. ÃÂ ÃÂ I was gob smacked when my 15 y.o. niece, who is a Harry Potter fan, said she was a Doctor Who fan as well. ÃÂ So I quizzed her: what does the letters in Tardis mean? Quick as a flash she replies "Time And Relative Dimensions In Space"! ÃÂ Gob smacked again.
