I was asked to explain what the proper amount of knee bend should look like in the Surge Swing. Your legs are your foundation, so it's important to have all the right elements in place before you take a swing.
As you'll see in the video, I like to use the accordion example of how the shoulders and knees go down together when setting up to the ball. Don't overdo it though or you might end up hurting your back and your golf game.
On another note, I just want to say that I appreciate all of the feedback and comments that are posted daily. It's really great to see and motivates me to keep on helping you cut strokes and shoot those lower scores!
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

Thanks for the reminder about
Thanks for the reminder about proper flexion of the knees Surge.I wanted to give a brief report on a fair day on the golf course. Played a new course today, Piute. Very impressed. It is actually the only complex of three 18 hole golf courses on one property in the Las Vegas area. It's been here for several years now and I'm surprised I've just dicovered it. I played the 7112 yard Sun course and wow beautiful. Excellent Pete Dye golf courses all. I started out hitting the ball okay but putting tentatively on very fast greens. I missed at least 5 putts under 6 feet on the first nine with only one par and a 47, ouch! Back nine started out with a bogie, double, double but at holes 13-18 really got on track with 4,4,4,5,3,4 that was all pars except one bogie on a par 3.This stretch included a sandy up and in with a 3 foot putt,a 50 foot chip to one foot, and a 45 foot putt on the last hole finishing with a 42 for an overall 89 on a tough layout. Playing for only the third time since my hand surgery recovery I am pleased over-all. I can see my scores back to the 83-85 zone soon. I will definately be playing the other 2 courses at Piute soon.
I would finally like to mention that I had the privelage of meeting (at the golf range) Mr. Robert F.
Yes both Vegas Roberts in the same spot hitting balls togather!. Super nice man and as regulars on this blog would expect, he was as genuine and nice in person as he seems on this blog. I got to see and actually swing and hit balls with his new Doc riffin made KZG driver, sweet!! Good job Doc, of course.
Down the middle,
Robert Meade

I do not have a final price yet, but probably between $1000. & $1,200. If everything works out, that will be for Driver, 2 FWs, 6 irons. As to the RSS feed problems. What operating system browser are you using. I use both Firefox and Internet Explorer 7. I do not know why but everything seems to work better in Firefox for me, except, the RSS in IE7 does seem to update faster when I refresh the page. Let me know your system browser and I'll let you know what my settings are and how it works for me in that system.

@Robert Meade: Just wanted you to know that I simply LOVE the driver that Doc made for me, and it was a "long-distance fitting". He really knows his business, so if you can't get fit in person, send him the info he needs and he will set you up with one sweet stick! Hit 'em straight! R2
Agree, I often wonder how
Agree, I often wonder how those who complain about instruction from the back porch, are ever able to read a book and enjoy it, without seeing the characters in their actual scene settings. It seems that some people have completely lost the use of their mental ability at imagination. To be unable to visualize the words and actions being applied to oneself in or on an actual golf course, is not the fault of the instructor, it is the fault, lack, or visual deficiency of the student. Use it or loose it. A mind is a terrible thing to waste/loose.

Wow, I didn't even know there was such a thing. Temecula is about an hour north of me. If you have time, we should get together to play golf. There are some nice courses in Escondido, which is about halfway between me and Temecula.
Surge talks about the front
Surge talks about the front to back weight distribution in the feet during this video. What I would like clarified is the lateral weight distribution in each foot throughout the swing. I am not talking about the preloaded heavy right concept. I am talking about whether the weight should be on the inside, down the middle, or on the outside of each foot at the different points of the swing.

I find that only a few swings to "get the feel" of the club and about one 18 hole round on the course are sufficient -- specially if the club in question is a new driver or putter -- that is a club that you use on almost every hole
Keep hitting them STRAIGHT and LONG

Andre- CJ's is not a carbon
Andre- CJ's is not a carbon copy.
Like Don's, CJ's is a limited turn, 3/4 backswing.
Body friendly, non-rotational swings.
BUT.... CJ Goecks teaches, for example :
1.) hitting down on the ball, creating a divot (vs Don nipping the ball.)
2.) wrist cocking.
3.) CJ's is a more laid off swing: Don's is much more vertical.
That last point is significant, and carries a lot of differences with it.
Still, I have found some of CJ's swing elements to be helpful and
very interesting and CJ's swing may a good alternate for some people.
Simply Golf
I'm planning on doing that
I'm planning on doing that myself. I'm doing a little experiment right now with an old driver just so I can make a video with a realistic driver swing instead of the "battle" that I use with the other driver. I have a KZG driver with a 355 cc head but it probably doesn't have the right shaft. I'm hoping it can at least approximate what one like that with the proper shaft would produce.
It was nice of him to let you
It was nice of him to let you hit it but that shaft is certainly not a proper fit for you. It's a telephone pole!! LOL LOL

Here's my idiotic question of the day. My friend says that when you get a new club, you can't expect to be able to really hit it well for about six months because you have to get used to it and learn how to hit it. I say that's a crock. Is she right? Is there some kind of learning curve or breaking in period?

Hey Janet,Ahhh paradise!
Hey Janet,
Ahhh paradise! Probably was before all of the people showed up. (Like the Eagles song "Paradise Lost") I bet even New York was really nice back when the Indians owned it.
When they shut the mine down in Missouri where I worked I told my wife that since I didn't have a job we could go anywhere and start over.
After looking at books and maps and studying almost the entire country we narrowed it down to Macon, Missouri and Mentone, Alabama and Paducah, Kentucky. I looked at my wife and said surely there are better places to live than where you grew up or where I grew up with Paducah thrown in the mix.
But maybe for the things that are important to us there is no better place to be.
I imagine a city person would go crazy around any of those places though.LOL
P.S. Of course the main criteria for choosing a place at the time was the best place for kids to grow up and go to school. Now it might involve a beach and an endless summer. LOL
Janet, you must be really
Janet, you must be really close to me if Escondido is halfway between you and Temecula. I am living out in East County.

Great reminder. It is easy for me to find myself bending over too much at the waist. I just tried it on my patio and found if I bend over too much at the waist without bending the knees, all my weight is on my toes.
That is why I love your daily reminders about the basics. They always bring me back into balance.
Thanks,
Dick

Janet, Yes. If you buy a club
Janet, Yes. If you buy a club off the rack. One that has not been fitted for your personal swing, then yes. You will have to teach your body how to manipulate the club, to get it to do what you want it to do. Wouldn't it just be easier if your friend had a club fitted and made to their own personal swing. It's better to manipulate the club spec's to fit your swing than to have to manipulate your swing to fit improper club spec's. Six months is a little over the top though. Maybe six rounds or six range sessions. Better golf is just a fit away. Where have I heard that before?
to clarify:
to clarify:
1. Don wants a SHALLOW divot from "nipping" the turf.
CJ's is a "hitting down" divot, which I have found that
to be hard on my left shoulder.

Ian, thats awesome pal and good on you for getting on top of the big C. If you want to thank the Surge then tell your mates especially those with bad lower backs, like me, that if they want to get back to power hitting (straight as a gun barrel) over a full round without debilitating themselves in the process then suggest that they join the Swing Surgeon Nation and study the program.

If you can't keep the weight
If you can't keep the weight as it was with outward pressure, then you have too much pressure. I show people contantly that come to see me what proper outward pressure is. I'll stand there and have them look directly at my knees as I apply slight outward pressure and have to repeat it several times as most people can't see it take place. Outward pressure is so slight that it will not move weight to the outer edges of the feet when done properly.

Excellent question and the
Excellent question and the answer is yes, there is sometimes a learning curve. It should not be 6 months. If it is, then club you are "learning' isn't right. The point of getting a piece of equipment that fits you is to allow you to swing properly. So, it should be a relative quick and easy transition.

Regardless of what route you take to your fitting, I will make sure you have one of them for yourself. Even if you don't come here, I can always do the "remote" fitting and build you the driver at least via video and the questionnaire.
