Sometimes the weather doesn't work out in your favor, but you still want to practice your golf swing. Fortunately, there are some really simple things you can do inside that will keep your golf game sharp.
Our resident Rolfer Golfer, Bruce Chaffin, recently responded to a comment on the blog about practicing indoors with a shorter club. I've touched on the subject of using shorter clubs indoors before, but Bruce brings up some interesting points about something that I never even thought about. Bruce was subconsciously changing his swing to avoid hitting the carpet as he would normally hit the ground when playing outside. This was causing him to have stress and strain in his neck area.
So when you practice indoors, make sure you are not altering your swing otherwise you may be hurting yourself more than helping.
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

I had the ART done by 2
I had the ART done by 2 different chiropractors, One incorporated ultrasound with it, the other used accupunture. Both also used electric impulses. They helped but did not cure the problems. (over a year between the 2 with over 25 sessions).
Then I went to a massage therapist who did deep tissue massage(?). I had 7 or 8 sessions over a few months. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!
I used ice frequently (not as much as I should have) through out the entire process.
The MT showed me how pressing and rolling a golf ball against the sore areas did a similar massage. I use the golf ball on the forearm, bicep, and hands.

That's what was happening.
That's what was happening. While we were sending emails from our own servers, we'd managed to get ourselves blacklisted by many of the major ISPs. We have now contracted out to an ESP to handle all of our emailing, and so should be experiencing a great success of having our emails land in everyone's Inbox. It may be that some ISPs are now seeing that as SPAM, where they didn't see the emails as such previously. So everyone just check your SPAM folder, declare this is NOT SPAM, and whitelist those Surge emails!!!

Apparently I wasn'etentirely clear. The "bird in hand" is held BEWTEEN the hands with a hand over each wing, frequently as a method of carrying said bird home from the market.
And YES, I agree with you completely on the description of proper grip pressuer.
As to killing chickens, one grandmother used the axe, the other preferred "wringing" their necks. To my knowledge, neither of them ever "choked a chicken" hahahahaha LOL

Glad to help! Yes, wearing
Glad to help! Yes, wearing these at night is the key because you otherwise have no control over what your arms are doing while you're sleeping. The other elbow brace you have sounds fine. It just needs to extend from your upper arm to your forearm. Not one of those braces that is like a ring you wear right below your elbow. You're trying to stabilize and keep the elbow from bending while you sleep. The wrist too. It feels weird sleeping like that at first, but you get used to it. It really makes all the difference for me. My professor is the one who diagnosed me and prescribed that treatment during grad school. I was taking so many notes! The neuropathy weakened my grip, and to compensate I was hyperextending my wrist to induce grip on my pen. You could actually see how hard my forearm muscles were from this. It was painful! The braces really help. Try it and let me know how it works for you!

Surge Nation
Surge Nation
There is a new member of the Surge Nation. I took my oldest grandson, 10, to the range today.
In about a half hour, he was doing the vertical swing. He was hitting with a little junior wedge. He was sending them about 25' high and about 60' long. After spending some time on the putting green he rode with me while I played 18. He wants to go with me tomorrow when I play a round with dad and his posse. I told him no. He is too young to witness what I plan on doing to those old men. I don't want to scar him for life.
I just got in a little while ago. Our granddaughter had a softball tourney tonight. We have 3 more games to go to this week between the grandkids. At least they are in the evening, so I don't have to chose between golf and watching their games. Good thing. Not sure which way I would have to go if put in that predicament. Well, ok, I do know which I would chose. I sure would miss seeing one of their games. Haha.
Wish me luck tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.
Missed chatting with you folks tonight. I will try to catch up on the blog when I get in tomorrow.
Keeping it vertical, and one proud Pop Pop, in Oklahoma,
Dick

Ted, went through the same
Ted, went through the same pain you went through including shots of cortisone into the elbow more than once.
Some time ago DJ had figure out something that gave him more distance or something. What he started doing was rolling his left elbow under. Do this by taking your normal grip and roll your left arm counter-clockwise while still holding the club. Stop where it is relaxed and flexible. It should mirror your right arm position.
Worked for me, in fact when I feel the pain I know what I did wrong with my setup and swing too.
Good luck

I have killed chickens both ways.
The objective of Chocking the chicken is not to kill it. That would hurt.
I am glad neither of your grandmothers ever chocked their chicken. That would cause more questions than answers.

In defense of Sam Snead, I believe that quote has been modified an re-intrepreted over the years. The way I recall the original saying it was to "hole the club like a bird in hand". To country boys of that era. a "bired in hand" was a large bird -- a chicken, a duvk, maybe a goose - held between the outstrecthed hands. And it is a LIVE bird that does not want ot be held. The resulting grip pressure would be at least a 3 on Durges meter - maybe approaching 4.
Somehow over the years the image seems to have changed to that of a canary or parakeet held between cupped hands -- an entirely different situation.
Keep hitting them STRAIGHT and LONG

Surge, about 18 months ago I started watching your email videos and now I am hitting more constitant shots with equal or more distance.
I recently visited my orthopedic doctor because I was experiencing pain in my back/hip area. Since I had my right hip replaced 30 months ago I assumed that I needed my left hip replaced. How wrong was I! He told that my hip was perfect, but my back was AWFUL! Yes, I do have arthritis throughout my body. In fact at age 74 I feel that I am fortunate to even play golf. The bottom line is that the 3/4 swing is saving my back. THANK YOU AND KEEP THOSE EMAILS COMING.

Good morning all,
Your search for the extra 30 yards we all want is over! I have located the mysterious fitter and found a video to prove he exists. No need to thank me. ;0)
Just copy and paste the link below and the PGA tour is yours. To steal and slightly modify a phrase we all know: Golf is just a click away.

I have found that often times when my elbow gets sore, it relates directly back to me squeezing the club far too tight. It has been the quickest cure for me to lighten the pressure on the club.

Dear DonOn the 24/1/11, I
Dear Don
On the 24/1/11, I wrote on the blog:-
"Been working on the PPGS for over a year now and shown little improvement in the
long game. Balls consistently going left, pushes to the right and lack of distance.
Had some great scores recently, but this can be attributed to my short game when it's
hot, due to heaps of practise. Have videoed my swing countless times and can see two problems, 1 is my head lifting vertically which changes my spine angle and 2, soon as
I get to 12 o'clock on the back swing, my club lays right back in the SGB. Ihave no feeling
of either of these during the swing and tried many ways to change, any suggestions
out there ?"
Today I Write:-
Hallelujah, hit a 37 off the stick today ( 9/36 ) 4 pars & two birdies, Dons method has finally
worked. It has taken me 15 years of countless lessons, practise and money with PGA Pro's
with very little reward. The long game which was very mediocre, is now straight, long and
reliable, short game is solid due to persistant practise to get it right while waiting for
something to happen with the long game.
What has changed me:-
1. The Kick Start, part press, part locking of the hips, keeps the lower half firm & balanced.
2. The Takeaway, I don't pull, but push with the left arm, the club is now over the toe line.
3. At the Top, I don't worry too much about the SGB, club is fairly vertical any how.
4. The Downswing, is a dominant left hand action which squares the club at impact.
5. The Forward Upswing and finishing to a T, so easy to do now and so reliable.
The above are things that either happened by chance or experimentation, but are starting
to produce some good results, have already broken 40, four times in the last month or so.
Hope the above may be helpfull to other bloggers, every one is different but we need to
adapt to our own personal physical capabilities.
Don, your'e a champion, NeilofOz.
