Hitting Your Driver

Sat, 04/02/2011 - 18:26 -- Don Trahan

We're still down in Orlando and today I decided to give a demonstration on how to hit your driver. With different weather conditions, it's important to know how to create different launch angles.

Sometimes it can be very windy on the golf course, so hitting it low and underneath the wind can make all the difference. Other times you may need to get the ball up. With just a couple of adjustments, you'll be able to hit the ball wherever you want.

I hit some pretty good drives today, and I even felt like Arnold Palmer at one point.

Keep it vertical,

The Surge!

Some of the smartest/wisest people in the world, are those who realize how little they actually know, but are able to ask the right questions. I wise man will seek the counsel of many.

That is why he is the Surge.

Not only can he help us cut strokes off our game, he can cut right to the chase.

Janet: Your post reminded me of an round I played a couple of years ago, late in the fall, near the Great Salt Lake. I was playing the worst golf imaginable, but was getting by just enjoying the beautiful, sunny, warm fall day. Then a large flock of geese came right over our foursome on their way back to the lake. Yup. It was me that got dumped on that day. I've never been back to that course. Don't you just love this game!!! R2

I think this is the best instruction Don has ever given. For tne first time I understood how to stand and address the ball with the driver. I wish I could download this and watch it while I am traveling. It finally clicked on the back nine today. Shot a 40; unfortunately I bogeyed the last 4 holes. Not bad for a 13.

Great video Surge, you had me focusing intently the whole time and it is very relevent to me as my drives seem excessively high and is very difficult to control when windy, which I think is a problem with me not releasing right. But what you have explained is food for thought and gives me things to try to control my issue.
Its great to see what you are explaining being practicly demonstrated.
Many Thanks for taking time out for us!

I am glad it is working for you. I think you have been using your own version of exactly what Surge was talking about today. Nothing works like success.

Some days I feel like I would do better to just kick the ball.

Keep up the good work.

tiptoeskst. Well said. We are here because we have had decades [in some cases] of instruction which has cost us mega bucks in the wrong equipment and suffered unmentionable injuries in the process. I am a confirmed, dyed in the wool Surgite in a family of fellow Surgite believing Golfers.
With your resume I can see how you fit in nicely with the rest of us Golfing Nutjobs heh heh heh.
Frustrating not to see the video, but it focused my mind on trajectory for windy conditions etc. A timely reminder, when in a couple of months[counting the days] I will be playing in a place renowned for it's strong winds.
WK is more to be pitied than scorned, methinks.
Keep it long and straight all you SwingSurgeonWarriors.Dragonhead
Unable to post this earlier, don't ask me why. Have I upset someone?
Read thru' all of the blogs and can put together the information to assist me in high and lower shots off the tee.
Robert Meade, I bought a lower end of the market set of Mizuno 'Finalist' clubs off the shelf in a Golf Shop in Dalian,China. They did well for me.I previously always had Ping steel shafts, until I bought them. I still have them and though I am back to Ping Irons again, there is no way I am going to get rid of them. The 11* Driver is battling for supremacy with my r7 Quad Taylormade 10.5* Driver. The Mizuno 'Finalist' 3 and 5Woods are my woods of choice. They are extremely easy to hit off the tee or fairway, with good distance without trying to skin the ball. The graphite shafts are excellent.
Note for Doc,
GolfChannel in China now much more aggressive with their club fitting, plus Lee Westwood, stressing the importance of proper club fitting for all from scratch to 28handicap players.
Dick,
I liked the Think Blessed, Be Blessed comment. With Surge, the team, and fellow Golfers, we are indeed blessed.

Janet, Good morning. You are absolutely correct and i am going to do my best to refrain from any replies to anything he says. As Dick has said we really do need to stop feeding him, cut off the blood supply.

I'm already on my 5th cup in 4hrs of being up. What would we do without coffee. Have a great day.

Dick, Let's not forget the Dan Quayle rendition, " It's a terrible thing to waste one's mind " A misstatement for sure, but aptly factual for a lot of people. The necessity to continually challenge our learning center gets even more important as we age.

Surge, I want to be you. Just for a while. Dang that was great to see you hitting balls again. Sweet!
Todays clip perfectly compliments the "unstoopable Surge" clip of you basically doing the same thing going regular, low, high with the driver. Was that your 12*? Don't know but it was cool how you showed us how the main thing you alter slightly is your spine angle and cutting it off lower on the low one. Of course it's interesting seeing how you still tee it fairly high for a low one. Thanks for the explaination and it's great to see you enjoying what you do. Can't wait to start playing again soon!
