Swinging Inside Out is a Problem

Sat, 12/12/2015 - 14:00 -- Don Trahan

One of the most common swing mistakes that amateurs make is swinging from the inside out. This can make it very challenging to hit the ball relatively straight, which should actually be the easiest thing to do, especially if you utilize the basics of the PPGSĀ setup and swing.

Today I'm going to discuss how the club should approach the ball and what should happen after impact. It's what I call "on, on, on, square and solid."

Keep it vertical!

Right now DJ does not have exemption status on Web.com or PGA tour; however, he sits 81st in FedEx points because of his last two tournaments. Using his prior champion status with his FedEx points standings, he should be able to gain some exemptions this year to play more. Don and DJ have been working together more closely than they have in a number of years. You will be seeing two dailies coming out soon about DJ's club fitting with Doc that happened two weeks ago.

Thanks for the DJ update. I am surprised he did not play Q-School to improve his status. Hope he gets some opportunities, know he will be playing the Humana as a past winner.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON:)

DJ is squarely focused on the PGA tour and not the Web.com tour. His past two tournaments have been really good so this is the best start to a new year that he has had since 2010.

Trying to improve my strength and swing speed and just watched a video on tempo (paul wilson golf) how to get consistent golf swing tempo.

Do we swing with the body and the arms follow ? I don't recall seeing this part of the swing mentioned in your training?

Thank you

I would recommend sticking with Surge's teachings, if you want a body friendly swing. Give Paul Wilson a miss, unless you believe you can possibly hit a golf ball by swinging your body and letting the arms follow. Very much the opposite of what Surge teaches.

Hi Tom,
I tried this swing, before converting to the Surge swing, with disastrous results . It is very much the other side of the road when compared to the Surge swing. It looks very smooth and easy, when he demonstrates it, but it was far from being friendly to my body and the results were so poor that I was ready to give up the game. I wasn't physically able to do the very quick and aggressive hip snapping and hyperextending of the target side knee that he advocates. It hurts me now to even think about doing this kind of thing to my body.
