Fitted Clubs Make All the Difference

Fri, 04/08/2011 - 14:21 -- Don Trahan

There was a comment posted on the blog recently that talked about the importance of having clubs that are right for each individual's swing. This could not be more accurate.

Phil said he found that getting a lower end model off the rack actually matched up to his swing better than a high end golf club. It's all based on each person's abilities when swinging a golf club. Some people have faster clubhead speed while others have a more moderate swing speed. So it is crucial to get fitted for what is best for you.

Make sure that when you go to a certified fitter, he or she is the one that actually makes the clubs for you. Often times, someone will get fitted for clubs but then the measurements get shipped off and you end up getting clubs that were already built. This is not the correct way for a fitter to operate. You should only pay for your clubs after the fitter has built them and taken you to the range, where you can really see if the clubs are right for you.

Keep it vertical,

The Surge!

We get the Cigar General about once or twice a month. I think that the politically correct crowd frowns on anything that has to do with cigars, so we don't get to hear it very often. Usually a local station will use it as a filler after a ball game or something like that.

There's nothing quite like a blue-grey cloud of cigar smoke,

Hey Bill K - you haven't answered my question of the other day. You said your fitter was John D'Acquisto's high school baseball coach, and I said I had a good friend who played baseball for Saints during that same period. What's your fitter's name? Is it also Bill?

After watching your videos and practicing ppgs in front of a mirror. I then practice at the range, I find that I play very well for 5 to nine holes and then sink back to bad habits which results in blow up holes and ruins what would have been a good round. What do you suggest I do to correct this problem?

Dick,

Now this is really crazy. I can't reply from Dashboard, but the main blog is letting me post. I think the "clones" have invaded my computer....lol.

I am loving this driver more and more. Doc really got it right. I'm thinking this really is a magic shaft. I still have not been able to time the bump right, but if I ever do...look out....lol. I'm allowing too much bump that turns into more of a forward slide. Practice swing is fine, but I leave the face open when it's overdone. I'm working on it and I'm open to suggestions.

Nice food network reference, btw.

I'll cross my fingers and eyes for your weather. Hit em straight and let Dad up up for air.

Robert: Welcome back and it's so good to hear that your hands are healing. It's always fun to "consider the possibilities" as you mentioned. I love teaching, and since retiring about 8 years ago, I only teach new or beginning students and really focus on those with disabilities. This year I'm going to help with the Special Olympics in our local area. It's just so fun - really!! So find something that is interesting AND FUN, and just enjoy the heck out of it! We really need people that are good at what they do, so the rest of us can benefit from their wisdom and expertize. Heal fast. Learn fast. Give back freely. R2

If you are going to get fitted clubs, and use this swing, you may as well get a ball optimized for you.

The May 2011 edition of GolfDigest has an evaluation of many brands in all price points which may help you pick. At my 85+/- mph swing (not bad for 68 years old), I've selected the Bridgestone E5 because it helps me get the flight of the ball up yet it spins like a $40 ball around the green.

Last year they said: "the spin yielded by this ball on wedge shots is close to that of the more expensive, tour-level balls. The e5 is a sleeper pick for low-ball hitters with average swing speeds."

Until you get the May copy, here is a link to last year's evaluations where you can read about all the balls.

It wasn't the "Great Lebowski," it was "The Big Lebowski." Great Coen Brothers movie. But, like you, I have absolutely no freaking idea what the heck that has to do with anything, except for the Dude reference, and since the movie was made in 1998, it proves my point that no one (no cool person, anyway) has called anybody "dude" since 2000.

"Black folk love the Eagles." And White Folk love the Temptations. So what?

Before you leave us forever I just have to ask. Why in the Hell would anybody be interested in a shaft that only you are eligible to possess? Who in the Hell would own the rights to such a magic shaft and sit on it for a year depending on you (of all people) to be the bizarre Director Of Marketing Operations with the sole marketing strategy to be dependent on this web site?

Game's over. Make the best of what's left of your miserable life.

>It is funny how anyone who disagrees with you on anything is called a leftist

When the Republicans wanted to trim a tea cup from an ocean of debt the leftists in congress said that they wanted to kill all to old people.

From The Blaze:

REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO DESTROY THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD: CONGRESSMAN MARKEY’S UNHINGED, GREEDY, POLLUTION-LOVING, GOP ATTACK

http://www.theblaze.com/storie....

Being in the service does not mean you rise above others ... servicemen are all just citizens ... in their case citizen soldiers. Trying to find yet another cheap shot method of attack on your part is duly noted.

I am more interested in the new shaft Kevin mentioned that delivers 30 more yards ... it isn't what I am using so I want to know how it compares.

Hey Moron

I am violating my own "No fly Zone" about your comment to BPerk. Why don't you fly yourself out to Oklahoma City. I will give you something that your magic driver won't be able to fix. Who knows, maybe you will end up with something in common with your friend with the two hip replacements. I am sure you can do all your own surgery yourself.

I guess you found my button with this attack on one of our service lads. Both my sons are serving, along with a lot of other great men and women, so you can sit around and run your mouth. They are defending the freedoms you are abusing.

Yes, you have the right to be a fool and say stupid things, but you should go somewhere else and say them.

Get a life pal, this one ain't working out for you. You are not fit to even speak or write BPerk's name. Go away.

Hi Dick,

I have a weird schedule today, so I thought I'd take a look at the blog and maybe throw rocks at the bootlickers/trolls.

I'm heading back out to Palmer tomorrow to see if I can get my irons working properly. I had trouble with them on Monday and need to work out the kinks.

It is funny how anyone who disagrees with you on anything is called a leftist. You do that over and over. My experience has shown me that is a method preferred by folks on the left, not someone who is a true conservative as you claim to be.

If you truly did serve in the USAF, thanks for your service. From your posts it appears that if you did serve, you were a boot licker and a name dropper way back then. I guess some thing never change. It is hard to believe anyone who served would belittle someone who is currently serving and come on this blog and try to diminish what they are doing. I suspect that like everything else about you, your claim to have served is just another pile of steaming horse hockey. I don't remind anyone who knows me of a leftist. Just so you know, I was the one in the uniform, not the one doing the spitting. I only had one person ever spit on me while I was walking through an airport in uniform. I don't do well with those kind of people. That person ended up in the hospital. The same thing would happen if I saw someone spit on a military person today. Unlike you, I am pretty much a man of action, not talk.

Do yourself and me both a favor and don't ever look me up out here. It might be hard to hit a golf ball with your magic shaft once it is used as a bow tie for you. Although, it might be easier for you to maintain the proper spine angle with a little built in support. It might serve as a spine and stop your wiggling like the snake you are.

I invite you to look at your posts and mine, to see who's get the most positive replies and "Likes." That might give even a guy like you a clue about who is talking about what other people care about.

Have your computer checked, the spell checker is not working. There is no Y on the end of my name. You got that about as close to right as you do anything else you talk about. No surprise there.

You did finally say something I can agree with. I should stick to my own self imposed rules about ignoring you. You go back under your bridge, and I will go back to ignoring you. The illness you have demands that you just keep escalating a situation and throwing BS around until you find others buttons. I admit that you found mine with BPerk. I responded to your post. I failed to respect myself and the other members of this blog enough to ignore you. I apologize to them for that. I won't make that mistake again. I don't care what you come up with next, I will not take the bait.

Don't go away mad, just go away,
Dick

What does the term saggers mean in what ever slang you are speaking? Everyone is entitled to an opinion. That means we are entitled to our's too. That does not make what we say mindless or abusive, or make us saggers as you say. In your short little post you were calling us names because someone said something you don't like. If you can do that when you pop in here, why can't those of us who post here every day do the same? What is good for your goose is good for our gander.

As to this blog getting less and less attractive to you, we can all live with that. Why would you waste your valuable time to come on here and read the crap we post. You would probably be better served on some other blog.

Thanks for dropping in,

Very true. We too have the "societies" -- usually some work or social group that has an annual tournament.
I find more Pro V1 and V1x when playing behind them. Gives a supply of "test" balls for days when I play aloe and conditions allow playing two or even three shots from various locations on the course. I have proved to my satisfaciton that the higher priced priced "Tour" balls do not proform any better with my lower swing speed than the lower priced Bridgestone "e series" or Treosofts that I normally play.

Keep hitting them STRAIGHT and LONG
