There was a comment posted on the blog recently that talked about the importance of having clubs that are right for each individual's swing. This could not be more accurate.
Phil said he found that getting a lower end model off the rack actually matched up to his swing better than a high end golf club. It's all based on each person's abilities when swinging a golf club. Some people have faster clubhead speed while others have a more moderate swing speed. So it is crucial to get fitted for what is best for you.
Make sure that when you go to a certified fitter, he or she is the one that actually makes the clubs for you. Often times, someone will get fitted for clubs but then the measurements get shipped off and you end up getting clubs that were already built. This is not the correct way for a fitter to operate. You should only pay for your clubs after the fitter has built them and taken you to the range, where you can really see if the clubs are right for you.
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

I totally agree. Since there is no way of controlling WK and his minions I have found my own way of dealing with it. After my reply I am deleting my disqus account and will no longer try to post or reply. It's a shame, but I have better things to do with time.
WK, congratulations, you have succeeded. I'm gone.

Jackoz--if you're implying that JB51 and WK might be the same person, I would agree. I thought this early on, and then changed my mind when JB51 started sounding a bit different. Now, I think they are the same person again, particulaly when the write about "my buddy."
The past several days on the blog were a joy. Then today this chain appears, and some of the joy disappears.

Sorry Doc but I do not belittle Surge. I use his ideas and go nearly vertical at the mitt. I got that tip from Derek Hardy. I am pretty sure my driver is better than anything you can make but that is not belittling you. It is a matter of fact ... and I have been willing to run a trial to see who makes the better driver. It would be very easy to find out who has a better club. If you can make a better driver than my fitter I will be happy to buy one.
After Surge hired John d' Acquisto for a biomechanics test I got hold of John and found out that the vertical swing that Surge proposes is 100% legitimate. So this is an endorsement of Surge - not belittling him. I took a lesson from Derek Hardy because he is a Surge guy in SoCal and he gave me a slightly different slant on what constitutes a vertical swing. And Derek's ideas work for me.
When Surge looked into EEGs he got all sorts of negative feedback from people here and I was 100% totally in supportive of the direction (if not the execution).
I paid for the diet and exercise deal and it vanished - never got my money back. And the one exercise deal was lame ... that is just what it was. I paid the monthly deal and bought his basic lesson plan so I think you don't want anyone here who swings a better club than you can create. And we always can find out if this is true or not true.
And you still don't know what I am using.

Bill,
I don't think Laszlo said anything that was not the truth and he was "taking" up for you in a very understated way. I must say, I pity you. There are some serious problems there my friend and I'm leaving it at that. If you do call today, I'll talk with you and listen to what you have to say and then that's it. It's gotten worse and worse to the point that I'm concerned that you're going to drive people away. I've given you plenty of warnings and I've pleaded with you to stop but to no avail. I am telling you now that you will be banned from the site and probably some time today.
I hate to say this but
I hate to say this but everybody can't just go to a fitter. I have Callaway X 20's graf. reg. shaft irons. I hit the 7 thru wedge great but have problems with 4 thru 6 they look toe up. I am a 10 handicap and hit 10 to 12 fairways but hit 4 to 6 greens. Is it too late to have the clubs refitted and do they have to be sent back to Callaway?? I really don't know a fitter in Montgomery AL. I shop at Edwin Watts. Please advise. Richard D.

Hi Fellow Surgers ,
Hi Fellow Surgers ,
It's good to see everyone is in a happy mood . I just spent the evening at a fundraiser for the First Tee of Alaska. Everybody had a great time and we raised a ton of cash for a really good cause.
I've decided that this is one of the areas where I will concentrate my efforts upon graduation. I will also try to help any active duty military member and especially wounded veterans. There is definitely a need in that area.
I am very active in my American Legion Post, currently serving as Second Vice Commander. We have been contacted at the post by an organization which serves wounded soldiers and their families, looking for activities which help to get them away from the 'green environment' and interacting with the community. In my opinion, golf would be a great therapy and give an entire family a way to recover from their trauma together. Maybe I have found a new calling :0)
Any input would be appreciated.
Hit'em Long and Straight,
Bob

If someone came to your house and told you it's too bad your wife is so ugly and the dinner would be okay if you didn't have such crappy taste in wine and meat and sauce and spices, and now that your kids are grown maybe you shouldn't hang their paintings in frames and why did you name your kid Picasso anyway you don't really think that shows talent do you...if someone did that, you'd ask them politely to leave, right? And if they didn't you'd steadily get less polite.
This is Don Trahan's home on the web, and by extension those of us in the Surge family who come here to share information and understanding about this swing theory. He's entitled to his opinion, and he can please take it with him and I don't give a crap if the virtual door slams on his virtual ass.
The first amendment, despite what some people might think, does not require that a private enterprise give you a forum to belittle their products or teachings and put yourself forward as the worlds leading expert because your dog went to obedience school with the dog of the wife of the guy who cleans the pool of the grandson of the guy who first thought to use graphite in a golf shaft.
Personally, I don't know why the idiot has not been blocked from posting here because all he does is spread discord and confusion. I will not directly respond to any of his posts and I do my best not to bother reading them because I want to deal with actually learning and practicing this swing and any other helpful advice that Don Trahan and his hand-picked, qualified experts wish to share with us.

I agree, Nellis, that the best thing would be to ignore him. The problem is, though, that he posts misinformation in addition to his attacks on everyone here. For example, he began posting statements that Surge is wrong about wide knees, which is a major part of mastering the Surge's swing. Then when challenged about it, he comes up with all this bogus authority that sounds credible to someone who isn't aware of who Bill K is and what he's up to. That's just one example. He's attempting to damage Surge's credibility, and the credibility of Doc in particular. He's been given every benefit of the doubt and every opportunity to prove what he says, and he's been warned that he'll be banned from the site. I hope it happens.

Excellent point SGW:
Excellent point SGW:
When a person's eyes are in between horizontal and vertical you lose depth perception for one thing. And when you think you are aligned with your putter you can be several degrees off.
But I suspect that this becomes a systems problem that falls into a predictable pattern and thus is susceptible to a solution.
If you watch PGA pros putt the announcer will say that "all the pros are misreading the putt today ... they think the ball will go to the left but it really breaks two inches to the right from here" and then the very next putt misses the same way all the rest did.
That says to me that they all misread the putt the same way because of the optical illusion cleverly built into the green by the course architect.
What I learned from Aimpoint is that ALL greens are laid out on a very mathematical basis. So math can be used to solve how to putt - distance and direction.
What they teach you is to trust your feet to read the putt and ignore your eyes. Plus they give you a set of tables that tell you if you are x many feet from the hole and where you are vs the fall line how many inches the ball will break. So if DJ could drain a much higher % of his putts from 15 to 20 feet in then he would rocket to #1 if his drives are in the fairway 80% of the time and 40 yards longer than they are now.

Hey all. My wife and I just
Hey all. My wife and I just got back from 5 days in Sedona Arizona. It was an amazing time. Such a postcard pretty place no matter what direction you look. So I've been mostly missing from the blog although I continued to take a few minutes and check the daily video blogs and the comments. (accept for the ususal suspect that I skip)
My hands are healing well and I actually have to go back to work tommorow. No golf yet though I did putt one afternoon in Oak Creek Village at the OCGC just south of Sedona. BeauifuI setting and golf course.I hope to start hitting balls again next week. If all goes well I will get a complete fitting and clubs built In mid May. I am continuing to learn alot about the rich subject of club fitting and am still considering finding a niche in the golf industry. This next twelve months is going to be very interesting as I consider the possibilities. R2(Roy) teaches golf. Robert Thompson is going to golf college soon.
A career change is in my future and additional schooling is likely. I just haven't made any final decisions yet. The research and study process is a fun part of the journey for sure.

Why is it that those type of people only think that the first amendment gives them the right to say what they want, but does not cover our right to reply or to simply tell them to shut up and move on?
If someone does not like the flowers I put in my front yard, they have the right to not look at them. They don't have the right to come into my yard and start yelling at me about my flowers. If they do, I will yell back at them. They don't have the right to tear them out. If they make that mistake, I would drive them into the ground like a tent stake. Since this blog is our computer front yard I don't take kindly to these fools who pop in from time to time and start yelling about what we do here. I guess that is why I have to go off on them with words, since I can't reach them. It is probably for the best.

>Here's the challenge. You pay for your own travel and deliver the club to me no later than Sunday. The test gets videoed and uploaded to Youtube. Detailed images of the clubhead, shaft, and grip get posted here. You'll probably have to contract for your own private security as well. Are you up to it ... yes or no?
I have no idea where you are located ... this is the second time I've asked. I will have to ask my fitter if you can video the trial. But you can certainly hit my club - I will have my house sitter (the one armed to the teeth) UPS my club to where I am staying so you can swing my club. If you like it and want something made from the same material (stiffer or more flexible or a different length or grip etc.) you choose the club head and I will purchase the shaft for you. If you want to tweak it to hone it in til it is perfect I will also pay for a few UPS shipments back and forth.

I personally think it might help your game. Just imagine being able to lock in your spine angle and have it never move (again, ever).
Might make it a little tough to walk. Remember to cut the stump off flush with the hole, otherwise it will tear your paper.

Usually in baseball we have starters (plural) and relievers (who although are not starters, are not back ups either, just relievers who very well may be the best pitcher on the team).

SoDak65: I see a lot of golfers that do the same thing - "hit whatever we can find". Many of my new/beginning students do it and wonder why their game never improves. The right ball really does make a difference. I personally have a very slow swing speed (75 mph) and found that in order to get the most out of every swing, I need a very low-compression ball so it will rebound properly off the clubface. If you hit "whatever you can find", the results will be "whatever that particular ball does", according to your personal swing mechanics. One of the most important "helps" in improving your golf game is using the right ball. And, the right ball for most of us is usually not very expensive. I get mine from eBay for about $12.00 a dozen. I also encourage my students to find the ball that fits them best, and use only that ball. Like Doc Griffin says,"Better golf is just a fit away", and that includes the ball. Have a great day and hit 'em straight! R2

Re: the bump
Quit thinking about it. It's like when you purposely take the first step at the beginning of a walking movement do you think about the second step? Of course not! It's a reaction. I would almost be willing to bet if you were to look at your swing prior to trying to execute the bump, you did it anyway. I see so much consternation over something that is probably already a reaction in about 99% of people's swing anyway but once they think about it, it goes "south". Just swing the club head and it will happen! Go enjoy your "magic" shaft!

DJ can't be properly fit or he wouldn't miss the fairway so frequently. He is a superior athlete and his swing system produces the straightest shots of any theory. So that leaves only one issue -- he isn't getting accuracy from his fitter.
Properly fit ... DJ would be 40 yards longer and hit the fairway 80% of the time or more.
DJ also needs to improve as his putting. His caddy should go through the Aimpoint system and write down where he thinks the ball will wind up BEFORE DJ makes a putt. DJ then says how much break he was playing. That way DJ's estimate of break can be compared against what Aimpoint says would happen and he can compare both of those to what actually happened. That might point back to errors resulting swing mechanics from the new belly putter or not. Just a guess but almost all golfers are fooled by their eyes.
